Last updated: 12/1/06 3:57 PM

Grade 1 hero and millionaire FORBIDDEN APPLE (Pleasant Colony) registered his

first winner as a sire on Thursday when his juvenile colt Forbidden Bear scored

in his debut in Woodbine's 10TH race. With James McAleney aboard, the 5-2

favorite rallied from far back on the turn and struck the

front at the top of the stretch in the maiden special weight event. Forbidden

Bear increased his margin to three widening lengths at the wire, stopping the teletimer in 1:12 1/5 for six furlongs on the Polytrack. The dark bay colt is

owned by Bear Stables and trained by Reade Baker.

A homebred campaigned by Arthur I. Appleton, Forbidden Apple captured the

2001 Manhattan H. (G1), back-to-back editions of the Kelso H. (G2) in 2000 and

2001, as well as the 2000 Belmont Breeders' Cup H. (G2). In addition, the dark

bay was runner-up in the 2001 Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) and placed in eight other

stakes, including the 2002 Arlington Million S. (G1) and Manhattan. Conditioned

throughout his career by Christophe Clement, Forbidden Apple amassed $1,475,520

from his 29-8-6-9 line.

Forbidden Apple was produced by the Northfields mare North of Eden (Ire),

making him a half-brother to 1994 champion turf horse and $3.4-million earner

Paradise Creek (Irish River [Fr]), Grade 1 winner Wild Event (Wild Again) and

Paradise River (Irish River [Fr]), who is herself the dam of multiple Group 1

victor David Junior (Pleasant Tap). North of Eden is a half-sister to 1987

champion turf horse and noted sire Theatrical (Ire) (Nureyev) as well as

Japanese Grade 1 winner Taiki Blizzard (Seattle Slew).

The 11-year-old stallion stands at Bridlewood Farm near Ocala, Florida, for

$5,000, live foal.
