Full fields assembled for McKnight, La Prevoyante

Saturday's $200,000 W. L. McKnight H. (G2) and its filly and mare

counterpart, the $200,000 La Prevoyante H. (G2), attracted full fields and are

the highlights of Calder's Grand Slam II

program.

DREADNAUGHT (Lac Ouimet), a former steeplechaser, won the 1 3/8-mile Red

Smith H. (G2) by a nose at Aqueduct on November 20 and will carry co-highweight

of 116 pounds along with Grade 2 winner DR. BRENDLER (Distant View), who

finished sixth in the Red Smith, in the grassy 1 1/2-mile McKnight. The former

is trained by Thomas Voss and will be ridden by Jean-Luc Samyn, while the latter

represents conditioner H. Graham Motion and will be guided by Jose Santos.

MACAW (Ire) (Bluebird), who defeated Dreadnaught by a neck in the 1 3/8-mile John Henry

S. at the Meadowlands in his last start, will be ridden by last year's Eclipse

Award-winning apprentice, Eddie Castro. Other contenders include French Group 3

winner PUPPETEER (GB) (Singspiel [Ire]), who exits a fifth-place effort in the

Shadwell Turf Mile S. (G1) at Keeneland for trainer Jeff Mullins, Red Smith

runner-up CERTIFIABLY CRAZY (Fit to Fight), and IRISH COLONIAL (Colonial

Affair), who gets Jerry Bailey astride.

COLONIAL BAY (Pleasant Colony) will lead the post parade under 112 pounds,

including Ramon Dominguez, and will be followed by Certifiably Crazy,

Cornelio Velasquez, 114; SCOOTER ROACH (Mi Cielo), Joe Bravo, 115; Dreadnaught;

Macaw, 115; Dr. Brendler; IN HAND (Belong to Me), Gary Boulanger, 112; DEMETEOR

(Dehere), Jorge Chavez, 112; Irish Colonial, 114; LATINO (Per) (Laubali),

Eibar Coa, 110; Puppeteer, Jose Valdivia Jr., 115; and RAYS A RULER (Groomstick), Manoel Cruz,

The La Prevoyante, also at 1 1/2 miles on the turf, attracted the winners of

both divisions of the Glens Falls H. (G3) at Saratoga.

HUMAITA (Ger) (Surumu),

winner of the first division of the Glens Falls,

captured the 1 1/2-mile Dowager S. by a nose at Keeneland in her

last start and will carry top weight of 119 pounds. The Bobby Frankel-trained

ARVADA (GB) (Hernando [Fr]) will go postward beneath 117 pounds, including Edgar

Prado.

three-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles on the main track. A HUEVO (Cool Joe), who

captured last year's Frank J. DeFrancis Memorial Dash S. (G1) after a lengthy

layoff at the age of seven, will attempt to stretch out in distance after

finishing sixth in this year's edition of the DeFrancis for trainer Michael

Dickinson. The Hooper attracted a full field of 12 and is the final race on the

Grand Slam II program.

Last but not least, the $100,000

Kenny Noe Jr. H. for three-year-olds and up

attracted 11 entrants. The event will showcase 2003 Hopeful S. (G1)

winner SILVER WAGON (Wagon Limit), who has not started since finishing third in

the Fountain of Youth S. (G2) in mid-February.

Other contenders in the seven-furlong main track test include MEDALLIST (Touch Gold),

winner of the Dwyer S. (G2) at Belmont Park, and WEIGELIA (Safely's Mark), winner of the

Carry Back S. (G3) over this surface.
