Grade 1 queen DYNAFORCE (Dynaformer) is the 4-5 morning-line choice for the
$100,000 Gallorette H. (G3) at Pimlico Saturday. The Bill Mott-trained mare
really came to hand in 2008 and is the class of the field, but this 1 1/16-mile
distance is shorter than ideal. She's also making her first start of the year,
so we'll take a stab against her in this turf affair.
ALL IS VANITY (Fr) (Gold Away [Ire]) had a real nice tightener for this
engagement and rates top billing from us. Conditioned by Christophe Clement, the
chestnut lass had a very useful 2008 campaign in the United States, never finishing
worse than third in five tries, four of which came in stakes ventures. The
five-year-old has excellent positional speed and proved her toughness when outdueling a pair of nice fillies last season. Alan Garcia has the assignment.
Dynaforce has been placed here seemingly as a prep for bigger things, but the
classy Kentucky-bred could easily put this field away late with her best. The
bay missed by less than one length to champion Forever Together (Belong to Me) at nine panels last campaign,
and if the turf is on the soft side, she moves way up. Garrett Gomez will break
from the outside post atop the favorite.
We've always liked SOCIAL QUEEN (Dynaformer) and we give the bay a big chance
at a major upset in this field. Trained by Alan Goldberg, the Grade 3 queen is
no sure thing, but when she fires, she fires big. While all of her turf
victories have come at Monmouth, the five-year-old had an excellent prep for
this when third in the Beaugay S. (G3), and should move up in her third try of the year.
ROYALTIES (King of Kings [Ire]) is perfect from two tries over this oval, both in
allowance/optional claiming events, but steps up to meet a solid group in here for sharp turf
trainer John Fisher. The dark bay mare appears a cut below the top ones in here,
but she ran well versus our top selection in October and merits some
consideration for the exotics.
SHYTOE LAFEET (King of Kings [Ire]) is a hard-knocking six-year-old for trainer
Larry Jones, winning or placing in 22 races in her career. The Kentucky-bred bay
has good tactical speed and is capable of running a big one from time to time, so
we'll include the lass in our exotics beneath Gabriel Saez.
TEJIDA (Rahy) has abandoned her front-running ways to be a one-run closer,
and the Michael Matz trainee has benefited from that move with some nice recent
results. The bay has placed in several graded events without a breakthrough, but
this field is strong and she seems best suited for a minor award.
VIVA LA FLAG (Rahy) has finished second in five of her six starts in the United
States, all by a half-length or less. The well-bred chestnut must be considered for
the vertical exotics, but her lack of wins limits her overall appeal.
QUIET MEADOW (El Prado [Ire]) had a productive winter in Florida since
transferring to the barn of Chad Brown, taking the Florida Cup Turf Distaff S. at Tampa Bay
last out. The late-developing bay is in excellent form and has good tactical
speed, so she is yet another we'll include. Eibar Coa inherits the mount.
