Georgie Boy, High Resolve swiftest of Millions dashers
With one horse beaten turning for home, George Schwary's GEORGIE BOY (Tribal
Rule) saw a seam along the rail and burst through under Garrett Gomez to claim
Saturday's $300,000
Millions Sprint by 2 1/4 lengths. The 2-1 second choice in a field of nine,
the Kathy Walsh-trained Georgie Boy returned $6.60, $4.20 and $3.60. The final
time for six furlongs over the Santa Anita Pro-Ride was a blistering 1:08.
Machismo (Trippi) held a comfortable lead early, rattling off fractions of
:21 3/5 and :44 1/5, and continued to lead in deep stretch by 1 1/2 lengths.
None but Georgie Boy eventually got past the 8-1 shot, and he was clear in
second by 1 3/4 lengths at the wire. Machismo paid $8 and $5.20, while 26-1
outsider Partywithlarryz (Beau Genius) rallied late for third by three parts of
a length, bringing back $8.60 to his supporters. The $1 exotics were $27.20
(exacta), $282.50 (trifecta) and $2,546.80 (7-3-4-10 superfecta) with 14-1
chance Dancing in Silks (Black Minnaloushe).
Grade 1 veteran In Summation (Put it Back), the 2-1 favorite, tracked in
second early but faded to sixth. He was followed by Sok Sok (Trippi),
Yesbyjimminy (Yes It's True), Cape Hatchet (Cape Canaveral) and Carnacks Choice
(Carson City). Big Bad Leroybrown (Wild Again) and Devoted Magic (Muqtarib) were
withdrawn.
At two, Georgie Boy broke his maiden in the Graduation S. at Del Mar in his
third career start. After finishing a solid second in the Best Pal S. (G2),
Georgie Boy came charging from near the back of the pack to take the Del Mar
Futurity (G1) in his juvenile finale. Walsh gave him an extended break by
design, and he returned the favor with a 3 1/4-length triumph in the San Vicente
S. (G2) in his three-year-old debut, then took the San Felipe S. (G2) by three
parts of a length before hitting the sidelines with a pulled back muscle.
Georgie Boy reappeared on the Breeders' Cup Saturday undercard, finishing fourth
in the Damascus S., and most recently finished third in the Malibu S. (G1) in
his sophomore finale. The dark bay gelding has now bankrolled $698,634 from a
line of 10-5-2-2.
The first foal from the stakes-winning Ippodamia (Peterhof), Georgie Boy has
a two-year-old half-sister Miss Georgie Girl (Old Topper) and a yearling full
sister. This is the family of Grade 1 queens Celtic Melody (Mr. Greeley) and
Delicate Vine (Knights Choice), as well as multiple Grade 2 heroine House of
Fortune (Free House).
Appreciating a return to dirt, a surface which she had won six times in seven
attempts over, HIGH RESOLVE (Put it Back) pulled away late to take the $300,000
Millions Filly and Mare Sprint at Gulfstream Park by 2 1/4 lengths, giving
the Estate of Harry Aleo and trainer Greg Gilchrest their second win on the
program following the victory by Wild Promises (Wild Event) in the Sunshine
Millions Filly and Mare Turf. Ridden by Robby Albarado, High Resolve covered six
furlongs in 1:10 2/5 and paid $13.40, $7 and $4.20 at 5-1.
Breaking on top at the rail in a field of 12, High Resolve held a half-length
advantage through splits of :22 and :45 1/5, and was never in serious danger of
being caught through the lane when asked to kick on. Dubai Majesty (Essence of
Dubai), at 6-1, rallied for second three lengths ahead of the pace-pressing
Lovely Isle (Double Honor). Dubai Majesty brought back $6.80 and $4.60 while
completing the $1 exacta of $57.30. Love Isle, the 5-2 choice, paid $3.20 and
completed the $160.90 trifecta ($1). The Grade 1-winning Mistical Plan (Game
Plan), returning from a layoff of five months, landed fourth at 5-2 and capped
the $1 superfecta of $652.40 (1-4-6-9).
Completing the order of finish was Merina Ballerina (Outflanker), Peisinoe
(Yes It's True), Unfolding Wish (Gilded Time), Flashover (Unusual Heat), Sekira
(Holy Bull), American County (Gibson County), Set Play (Van Nistelrooy) and
Dearest Trickski (Proudest Romeo).
High Resolve kicked off her career with five consecutive wins, which included
scores in the Joe O'Farrell Juvenile Fillies S. at Calder, the Arizona Juvenile
Fillies S. at Turf Paradise and Princess S. at Bay Meadows. She met her first
reversal when fourth lengths third to entrymate and Grade 3 queen Victorina
(Delaware Township) following a six-month break in an allowance at Bay Meadows,
but returned to the winner's circle in her next start taking the Sweepida S. at
Stockton. Prior to the Sunshine Millions, High Resolve grabbed runner-up honors
in the Cascapedia S. and Kalookan Queen H. at Santa Anita in her only synthetic
surface outings. Her record now stands at 10-7-2-1 with earnings of $426,270.
Bred in Florida by Steve Tucker and Bryan Tucker, High Resolve is out of the
stakes-winning Shari's Glory (On to Glory), also the dam of an unnamed
two-year-old filly by Snuck In and a yearling colt by Cashel Castle. High
Resolve's seventh dam was *Boudoir II (*Mahmoud), whose son Your Host sired
five-time Horse of the Year Kelso. *Boudoir II was also the ancestress of
champions Bowl of Flowers (Sailor) and Gallant Bloom (*Gallant Man), dual
classic winner Majestic Prince (Raise a Native), and the noted full brothers and
sires Graustark and His Majesty, both by *Ribot.
