Get Stormy looks to follow up in Bernard Baruch

Two of his Fourstardave opponents are hoping for better luck in the Bernard

Baruch -- WHATSTHESCRIPT (Ire) (Royal Applause [GB]) and RADICAL SABBATICAL

(Harlan's Holiday), fourth and fifth respectively to Get Stormy last time. Of

the two, Whatsthescript has more upside. The multiple Grade 2 veteran had to

alter course in the stretch that day, and should profit from the extra distance

here. Arguably his finest moment came in the 1 1/8-mile American H. (G2) at

Hollywood Park in 2008, when he simply inhaled his foes in the stretch.

Whatsthescript, who entered stud earlier this year and served a book of mares,

was put back in training with new conditioner Gary Contessa this summer. A

closing third in his comeback in the July 10 Battlefield S. at Monmouth, the

six-year-old could be primed for a top showing in his third start off the

layoff. Rajiv Maragh picks up the mount.

Although Get Stormy still shapes up as the likely pacesetter, he could get

pressure from the Rick Dutrow-trained NATIONAL KID (Brz) (Dodge), a wire-to-wire

winner of a Monmouth allowance on July 5. Three-for-four lifetime, the bay

gelding gets the services of Julien Leparoux in his stakes debut.

Rounding out the field are Grade 2 victor NOWNOWNOW (Whywhywhy), who figures

to move forward off his fourth in the Oceanport S. (G3) for Patrick Biancone;

Fort Marcy S. (G3) hero BALETTI (Gulch), most recently sixth in the Monmouth S.

(G3); SUDDEN WAR (Arg) (Sunray Spirit), who finished third in a pair of Grade 2

marathons during Santa Anita's winter meet and enters off a four-month layoff;

and ROGUE VICTORY (Victory Gallop), who takes a class test in the wake of an

allowance/optional claiming score over the course.

The Bernard Baruch undercard features two supporting stakes. Undefeated

Barbaro S. winner TRICKMEISTER (Proud Citizen) tops a five-horse field entered

in the $75,000

Pleasant Colony S. for sophomores. Purchased by IEAH Stables and turned over

to Dutrow following his successful stakes bow, the bay colt has been training

sharply for his new barn, outworking older Grade 1 star Rail Trip (Jump Start)

in a six-furlong drill on August 11.

Trickmeister is also under consideration for Saturday's Travers S. (G1),

however, and may well end up scratching from the Pleasant Colony. If he runs

Friday, he'll break from the rail with Garrett Gomez.

OUR DARK KNIGHT (Medaglia d'Oro) folded after forcing the pace in the Haskell

Invitational (G1) for stablemate Ice Box (Pulpit), and trainer Nick Zito gives

him some welcome class relief in this spot. The Robert LaPenta colorbearer was a

solid second in the Spend a Buck S. at Monmouth in his only prior stakes

attempt. Jose Lezcano had guided Our Dark Knight to two good-looking allowance

victories earlier this season, and gets reacquainted with the tactical colt

here.

WESTSHORE (Saint Liam), a distant second to the sidelined Winslow Homer (Unbridled's

Song) in the Curlin S. at this track and trip, also promises to show early speed

for Leparoux. REGAL WARRIOR (Louis Quatorze), fourth to both Trickmeister and

Winslow Homer in his past two, will try to mount a rally from off the pace,

while recent allowance scorer MODERN COWBOY (Tiznow) projects a stalking trip

for Todd Pletcher.

The day's opener, the $70,000

Charles Dowd S., is a seven-furlong affair for New York-breds. Top

contenders include DRIVEN BY SUCCESS (Precise End), MINESWEPT (Mineshaft), UNCLE

T SEVEN (Freud), GROOMEDFORVICTORY (Victory Gallop) and MAKE NOTE (Read the

Footnotes).

Friday's

5TH race, a 1 1/16-mile turf maiden for juvenile fillies, marks the

reappearance of TIZ MY TIME (Sharp Humor), who was last seen finishing third in

the Albany S. (Eng-G3) at Royal Ascot for Ken McPeek.
