Ghostzapper colt tops Adena Springs sale

A bay colt by 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper brought a final bid of

$250,000 to lead all offerings at Monday's Adena Springs Two-Year-Olds in

Training Sale in Williston, Florida. Consigned as Hip No. 12, the Kentucky-bred

was purchased by F. Thomas Conway.

Out of 2000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1) heroine Collect the Cash

(Dynaformer), the juvenile is a half-brother to the stakes-placed Money My Honey

(Red Bullet). The sales topper's second dam was the stakes-winning Worldly

Possession (Valid Appeal), and this is the extended family of Grade 3 winners

Dr. Bobby A. (Dr. Carter) and Nome (Double Sonic).

Two fillies sold for $120,000 each. Hip 26, a chestnut by Ghostzapper, was

purchased by Hidden Brook, agent for Blue Devil Racing. Out of Herzblatt (Cozzene),

the filly is a three-quarter sister to the multiple stakes-placed Awesome Hero

(Awesome Again). The juvenile's second dam, Canadian champion grass horse Hero's

Love (Hero's Honor) also produced the stakes winners Love Kiss (Gone West) and

Love Sting (Lit de Justice). The Florida-bred's fourth dam was Grade 1 winner

Flying Partner (Hoist the Flag), a half-sister to English and French champion

sprinter Ajdal (Northern Dancer).

For the same price, Clyde Rice secured Hip 67, a gray filly by juvenile

champion Macho Uno out of the winning Vividly (Touch Gold). Produced by the

Grade 1-winning Vivid Angel (Septieme Ciel), Vividly is a half-sister to the

multiple stakes-placed Leo Getz (Wild Rush).

On Monday, 48 head sold for $2,149,000, resulting in an average of $54,469.

This represented a decline of 59.3 percent in gross and 17.8 percent in average

compared to the 2008 session, which realized receipts of $5,283,500 from the

sale of 97 juveniles.
