A weanling colt by Golden Missile was sold to Strait Draw Stables for the top

price of $62,000 at Monday's concluding session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic

December Mixed Sale in Timonium, Maryland. Consigned by Thomas J. Gallo III

Sales Agency, agent, the New York-bred chestnut toured the ring as Hip No. 334.

The April 11 foal was produced by the unraced Precious Queenie (Wild Zone),

who is a half-sister to multiple stakes victor Royal Strength (Stalwart). This

is the family of Indian classic heroine Right Step (Ilheus), herself the dam of

1995 Indian Horse of the Year, Elusive Pimpernel (Wattlefield). The

sales-topper's fourth dam is Flirtatious (Menow), winner of the 1952 Spinaway S.

On Monday, 154 horses were sold for a total of $1,273,700, a decline of 18.4

percent from the comparable session last year, when $1,560,700 was realized by

167 horses. The average dropped 11.5 percent, from $9,346 to $8,271, but the

median shot up 33.3 percent, from $3,000 to $4,000.

During the two-day auction, 287 horses changed hands for $2,056,500, down

23.2 percent from the 2006 sale, when 338 horses brought $2,678,300. The average

dipped 9.6 percent, from $7,924 to $7,166, but the median rose 9.4 percent, from

$3,200 to $3,500.
