Goldikova, Workforce to return to action in 2011

Goldikova just established a record Saturday, becoming the only horse to win

three Breeders' Cup races when rolling to her third straight Mile. She also owns

the mark for the most Grade/Group 1 wins by a European runner, with 12.

"She won her last race so well. That is the main reason we decided to keep

her in training," said Gerard Wertheimer, who was attending the Keeneland sale

Monday with his brother. "And the other reason is that my brother and I think to

keep a horse in training for a longer time is very good for racing."

"The public gets used to the name and, if they race a little bit more, we

think it well help the Thoroughbred industry," Alain Wertheimer added.

Likewise coming back for another year is Derby (Eng-G1) and Prix de l'Arc de

Triomphe (Fr-G1) hero WORKFORCE (GB) (King's Best), who was scratched from

Saturday's Breeders' Cup Turf (G1).

"Workforce will stay in training," Juddmonte Racing Manager Teddy Grimthorpe

told Racing Post. "He won't run again this year."

Grimthorpe also commented on his withdrawal from the Turf.

"He's sizeable and scopey, and racing him on too-fast ground for him at this

stage -- this would have been only his sixth lifetime start -- well, his future

career is too important," he said of the Sir Michael Stoute trainee.

With recent Derby winners Authorized (2007), New Approach (2008) and Sea the

Stars (2009) all retiring at the conclusion of their sophomore campaigns,

Workforce becomes as the first Derby victor to return as a four-year-old since

Sir Percy, the 2006 Derby scorer.
