(Churchill Downs)

On Sunday, reigning champion two-year-old male Hansen recorded

his first move since taking the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes by three lengths on March

3.

The Mike Maker pupil breezed an easy four furlongs in :50 2/5 over the fast

dirt at Churchill Downs' Trackside Training Center. It was the gray colt's first

work back in Kentucky since last October, as he spent the winter months

following his Breeders' Cup Juvenile victory in Florida.

Hansen had the track nearly to himself as he completed the distance under

exercise rider Joel Barrientos in fractions of :12, :24 3/5 and :37 3/5. He

galloped out five furlongs in 1:05 2/5.

Dr. Kendall Hansen and Sky Chai Racing's three-year-old son of Tapit covered

the half-mile just after the mid-training session break for track maintenance.

Despite heavy rain in Louisville overnight, the six-furlong Trackside training

course was rated "fast" for the move.

Hansen is pointing for the Grade 1 Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct on April

7. That nine-furlong affair will serve as the colt's final prep for the May 5

Kentucky Derby.

Maker said afterward that he was looking for an easy move for Hansen and that

he would probably work again next Saturday, provided the colt comes out of

Sunday's training move well.
