Gary Tanaka's STAR PARADE (Arg) (Parade Marshal) wired the field to post a 1 3/4-length score in Sunday's $100,000

Hawthorne H. (G3) at

Hollywood Park. Sent to the early lead by jockey Martin Pedroza, the

seven-year-old mare carved out splits of :23 2/5, :47 and 1:11 before

being tested in the stretch by Hollywood Story (Wild Rush), who rallied on the

inside and got within a

half-length of the leader through a mile in 1:35 4/5. Star Parade responded when

asked by Pedroza, drifting in slightly in deep stretch, but pulling away gamely

to emerge victorious, traveling the 1 1/16-mile contest in 1:42 1/5 over a fast

track.

Sent off as the 8-5 second choice, the Darrell Vienna trainee returned

$5.20, $3 and $2.10 while leading $1 exotics of $7.90 (exacta) and $14.10 for

the 2-3-6 trifecta. Hollywood Story was a clear second at 9-2 to pay $3.60 and

$2.20 while even-money favorite Healthy Addiction (Boston Harbor) came home 5

1/4 lengths farther back in third to give back $2.10. New Regina (Brz) (Royal

Academy) and Santa Candida (Arg) (Espaciado) rounded out the order of finish

while Freakin Streakin (Tactical Advantage) was scratched from the race.

Bred in Argentina by Firmamento, Star Parade is out of the stakes-winning

Clerical Etoile (Arg) (The Watcher). Star Parade annexed the 2004 and 2006

editions of the Santa Maria H. (G1), the 2004 running of the

Milady Breeders' Cup H. (G1) as well as the 2003 and 2005 renewals of the

Bayakoa H. (G2). This was her sixth black-type win, and she now holds a record of

31-9-7-4 with $1,160,419 in earnings.
