High Yield dies in France

HIGH YIELD (Storm Cat), a

Grade 1 winner at two and three in the United States, has died in France.

The 10-year-old was slated to stand the 2008 season at Haras de la Haie Neuve in

Mondevert.

Bred by Brushwood Stable in Pennsylvania, High Yield was purchased by Coolmore's

Demi

O'Byrne for $1,050,000 as a yearling at the 1998 Keeneland July sale. Racing for

a partnership

that included Bob and Beverly Lewis, Mrs. John Magnier and Michael Tabor, High

Yield won

the Hopeful S. (G1) as a two-year-old and was third to Anees in the 1999 Breeders' Cup

Juvenile (G1).

During his sophomore year, High Yield added the Fountain of Youth

S. (G1) and Blue

Grass S (G1). He missed the board in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness S.

(G1) and

was retired with

four wins in 14 starts and earnings of $1,170,196 after suffering a fractured

sesamoid in a

workout.

High Yield stood his initial season at Coolmore's Ashford Stud near

Lexington,

Kentucky, in 2001.

He was sold to Hernan Ceriani Cernadas's Haras La Quebrada in 2005 and stood in

Argentina,

Australia and France in the last few years.

From four crops of racing, High Yield sired 161 winners and 14 stakes winners

with progeny earnings of more than $9.5 million. Notable progeny

include this year's Bonnie Miss S. (G2) heroine High Again and Alezzandro,

winner of Canada's Prince of Wales S. and runner-up in the Queen's Plate.
