Hong Kong-bound Family One sells for
€400,000
France's star two-year-old of 2011 Family One (Dubai Destination) is heading
to Hong Kong after selling for €400,000
during the horses-in-training session of Arqana's Autumn Mixed Sale Monday. Hip
No. 122, who was offered by trainer Yann Barberot on behalf of Ecurie Ascot, has
few domestic peers in his category after authoritative wins in the Group 3 Prix
du Bois and Group 2 Prix Robert Papin at Chantilly and Maisons-Laffitte
respectively in July and a second to Dabirsim in the Group 1 Prix Morny the
following month.
He was reported to have traveled badly to Newmarket when unplaced -- beaten
less than five lengths -- in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes in October and that
will be the last European start for the son of the stakes-winning Ascot Family
(Desert Style). Marie Yoshida's Asian Bloodstock outlasted Herve Barjot to get
the colt. According to the Racing Post, the bay will race in the colors
of Chinese owner Edmond Yue.
"It was the owner's dream to have a horse of this quality," Yoshida told the
trade daily. "I came over especially from the United States to buy him. He has
good experience, but still appears to have plenty in the tank. The colt looks
ideal for racing in Hong Kong as he has a lot of class and is very quick."
Other flat-based purchases during a session which was largely dominated by
the national hunt brigade were headed by Chris Richner Bloodstock's securing of
the wild card entry Kadyny (Zamindar) for €160,000.
Third in the Group 3 Prix des Chenes at Longchamp in September, the Thierry
Lemer-consigned Hip 125 has since won again at Maisons-Laffitte. He will join
the Czech trainer Frantisek Holcak.
Most of the draft of His Highness The Aga Khan fell to the jumps buyers, but
Damon Gabbedy's Belmont Bloodstock Agency snapped up Hip 153, the three-year-old
colt Caroun (Montjeu), for €150,000.
Successful in a 12-furlong conditions event at Saint-Cloud last month, he is a
half-brother to the 2005 Group 1 Criterium International hero Carlotamix
(Linamix) and was bought for trainer John O'Shea.
With nine yearlings fetching over €100,000,
the revamp of the Autumn Sale and move to Deauville from Saint-Cloud was being
heralded as a success by management. The gross of €3.82
million has already outstripped last year's total of
€2 million, while the 79 percent clearance
rate and average of €30,112 have a healthy
appearance.
"The horses-in-training section achieved some highly satisfactory results
today, as highlighted by the clearance rate, in excess of 78 percent," Arqana
President Eric Hoyeau commented. "The diversity of the profiles on offer
attracted a broad array of investors: flat performers with high potential were
bought for Australia or Hong Kong, while lower-grade horses also found new
homes, and the Anglo-Irish NH fraternity was very active this year again. The
synergy between this section and the yearlings the following day seems to have
worked and the move from Saint-Cloud to Deauville is definitely a major plus in
terms of comfort and organization."
Selling of the yearlings takes place Tuesday. Full results are available at
