Hoosier Park cancels Thursday

Increasingly poor track conditions led Hoosier Park officials to cancel

racing after the 3RD race Wednesday night and extend it through Thursday's card.

The evening started off with a spill in the 1ST race. Jockey Hector Rosario

Jr. was thrown when his mount, VERSION (The Name's Jimmy), clipped

heels with another horse entering the first turn and fell. CAPE FEAR (Cape Town)

broke down not long after the incident, unseating rider Steve Capeles. Rosario was

examined by track personnel and later taken to a local hospital for additional

treatment. Capeles escaped serious injury. Both Version and Cape Fear were euthanized after being examined by

the track veterinarian.

The rest of the field continued on to the stretch but was waved off by

outriders at the eighth pole. The race was declared a no contest and all wagers were refunded.

Racing was canceled after the 3RD as the

track condition continued to worsen. Track officials later canceled

live racing on Thursday due to concerns over track conditions brought on by inclement

weather. Hoosier remained open for simulcasting, and live racing was scheduled to

resume on Friday with a first post of 6:16 p.m. (CST).
