I Want Revenge, Redding Colliery clash in Iselin

The second chapter in the comeback saga of I WANT REVENGE (Stephen Got Even)

will occur Saturday at Monmouth Park in the $300,000

Iselin S. (G3). The 1 1/8-mile test drew only five others, and under the

allowance conditions of the race I Want Revenge will carry the lightest impost

of 117 pounds and jockey Joe Bravo, who replaces the sidelined Joe Talamo.

Hero of the Wood Memorial S. (G1) and Gotham S. (G3) last year, I Want

Revenge was the early favorite for the Kentucky Derby (G1) but was forced to

scratch the morning of the big race due to a leg injury. Though subsequent

surgery nearly put his racing career in jeopardy, the dark bay healed

sufficiently and was moved from trainer Jeff Mullins to the barn of Rick Dutrow

in preparation for a four-year-old campaign.

Understandably short in the July 3 Suburban H. (G2) at Belmont in his

comeback from 15-month absence, I Want Revenge was only beaten four lengths by

Haynesfield (Speightstown) in a third-place effort. Forward progression and an

expected solid pace might ensure a victory for the four-year-old, who could

develop into a dark horse contender for the upcoming major fall races.

REDDING COLLIERY (Mineshaft) enters in career-best form for Kiaran

McLaughlin, who has spotted the gray nicely in recent months. In four starts

this term Redding Colliery has walked away the winner of the John B. Campbell H.

and Lone Star Park H. (G3), the latter by 6 3/4 lengths over subsequent

Hollywood Gold Cup (G1) winner Awesome Gem (Awesome Again). Redding Colliery had

previously finished behind that rival when third in the Charles Town Classic in

his only loss this season.

GONE ASTRAY (Dixie Union) turned in his best effort in months when taking the

July 3 Salvator Mile (G3) over the Monmouth strip, overcoming a slow pace to win

by five widening lengths. However, his 98 BRIS Speed rating pales in comparison

to the triple-digit figures he earned winning the Pennsylvania Derby (G2) and

Ohio Derby (G2) last season. DUKE OF MISCHIEF (Graeme Hall), second in the

Salvator Mile, has run hot and cold this season, with his biggest triumph coming

in the April 3 Oaklawn H. (G2).

SIR WHIMSEY (Jump Start) earned his first win since the 2008 Gulfstream Park

H. (G2) in the July 17 R. R. M. Carpenter Jr. Memorial S. at Delaware Park, but still

appears below his peak form of two years ago. Grade 3 veteran OUR EDGE (The

Cliff's Edge), undoubtedly the pacemaker in the Iselin, failed to stay the

distance in the Carpenter Memorial and will be hard pressed to last against this

group.

The $100,000

Omnibus

S., an 11-furlong grass test for fillies and mares, has attracted a pair of

Grade 3 winners in SPEAK EASY GAL (West Acre) and TOTTIE (GB) (Fantastic Light).

The former captured the Orchid S. (G3) in March and was most recently a close

trailer of six in the Just a Game S. (G1). The latter was best of the Suwannee

River S. (G3) in February and was a half-length third in the Matchmaker S. (G3)

earlier this month.
