Imperialism retired to stud in Florida

Last updated: 8/7/06 4:48 PM

Multiple Grade 2 winner IMPERIALISM (Langfuhr) has been retired from racing and will

stand the 2007 breeding season at Get Away Farm near Ocala, Florida. Owned by

Steve Taub, the five-year-old gray compiled a record of 29-6-5-3 with $899,772

in earnings from four seasons of racing.

Imperialism showed promise as a multiple stakes-placed juvenile in the fall

of 2003, but he blossomed when switching to the barn of Kristin Mulhall as a

three-year-old. After annexing the San Vicente S. (G2) and San Rafael S. (G2) in

succession, he was promoted to second in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) and

finished third in the Kentucky Derby (G1). As a four-year-old, he missed by a

nose in the Strub S. (G2) and posted his final victory when closing from last to win

the Pat O'Brien Breeders' Cup H. (G2) at Del Mar last August. Imperialism was

unplaced in two starts

this year.

"He was a great horse for me," Mulhall said. "He was my first 'big horse'; my only 'big

horse' so far. He moved me around, took me a lot of places and gave me a lot of

experience.

"He was a little quirky, a little on the tough side, but overall he was

a nice,

easy horse," Mulhall added.  "Of course, he was a little spoiled, too."

Bred in Kentucky by Farnsworth Farms, Imperialism is out of the Pass the Tab

mare Bodhavista.
