India and Master of Disaster both break from rail

Last updated: 9/15/05 7:42 PM

Juveniles are showcased on Saturday in New York as Belmont Park plays host to

the $300,000 Matron S. (G1) and $300,000 Futurity S. (G2). Both events will be

held over seven furlongs.

Seven two-year-old fillies will square off in the Matron and the most

accomplished entrant is Adirondack (G2) winner FOLKLORE (Tiznow), who exits a

runner-up finish in the Spinaway S. (G2). The D. Wayne Lukas trainee will

receive a jockey switch to Edgar Prado. However, favoritism could easily fall to

INDIA (Hennessy), who exits a 12-length maiden special weight romp at Saratoga.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, India will be ridden by John Velazquez.

The Matron contestants, from the inside out with jockeys, are India; ALONG

THE SEA (Anees), Javier Castellano; HALO HUMOR (Distorted Humor), Jerry Bailey;

FIFTH AVENUE (Monarchos), Eibar Coa; MISS NORMAN (Artax), Mike Luzzi; Folklore;

and RIVER'S PRAYER (Devon Lane), Victor Espinoza.

All starters will carry 119 pounds.

Trainer Steve Klesaris holds a strong hand in the Futurity with the coupled

entry of MASTER OF DISASTER (Dance Master) and DIABOLICAL (Artax). The former

equaled a track record at Delaware Park when breaking his maiden first-time

out by 13 1/4 lengths and finished second in the Saratoga Special (G2) most

recently. Diabolical broke his maiden by 9 3/4 lengths in his career bow before

finishing second in the Sapling S. (G3) last out.

Other contenders in the seven-horse field include PRIVATE VOW (Broken Vow),

who recorded maiden and allowance scores at Saratoga for trainer Steve Asmussen,

and CHANGING WEATHER (Storm Boot), who exits an impressive maiden win in his

career debut.

Master of Disaster leads the post parade with Velazquez and will be followed

by Diabolical, Cornelio Velasquez; Changing Weather, Prado; DISCO'S SON (Disco

Rico), Castellano; DIXIEWINK (GB) (Dixie Union), Jeremy Rose; Private Vow, Bailey;

and Union Course, Richard Migliore.
