An overflow field of 13 has been entered to go 1 1/16 miles Friday night at
Hoosier in the Indiana Oaks (G3). HUMBLE JANET (Humble Eleven) will be going in
her fourth straight Oaks, having run second in the Arlington Oaks (G3) and Iowa
Oaks (G3), as well as fourth in the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1), in her past
few starts. The Steven Asmussen pupil was a nice allowance winner at Churchill
Downs earlier this year, and earned a 114 BRIS Late Pace rating for her most
recent try in the Arlington Oaks. Humble Janet has been knocking on the door of
late and could finally break through with a first stakes win here. Robby
Albarado has the return call.
MARIETTA (Machiavellian) captured the Arlington and Iowa Oaks in her past two
tries, earning nice numbers in the process. The Eoin Harty charge also rallied
for a game third in the Selene S. (Can-G3) at Woodbine in late May. She could
continue her winning ways here, but we're leery of using her on top based on her
preference for synthetic surfaces. The dark bay miss didn't break her maiden
until trying Keeneland's Polytrack, and her Arlington Oaks triumph came over the
Chicago Polytrack. Though she did take the Iowa Oaks on dirt, we're willing to
go against in this spot and just tab her to fill out the exacta under Rafael
Bejarano.
TICKET TO SEATTLE (Capote) hasn't visited the winner's circle since taking
the Peach Blossom S. in mid-May. Since then, however, the Steve Klesaris-trained
dark bay has been third in the Crank It Up S., fourth in the Prioress S. (G1)
and second last out in the Endine S. (G3). The sophomore lass has placed in the
top three in eight of her 10 lifetime starts, and is sure to fill out one of
those spots on Friday. Ticket to Seattle might even be able to challenge for it
all based on her past race, and will keep regular rider Kendrick Carmouche
aboard.
APPEALING ZOPHIE (Successful Appeal) won the Silverbulletday S. (G3) going
this distance at Fair Grounds earlier this year, but hasn't been the same filly
since. The Asmussen trainee, who will run coupled with Humble Janet, was a
well-beaten eighth in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) and then cut back to sprint
distances. She could show more life here on the stretch-out, so include in the
exotics with Shaun Bridgmohan holding the reins. BOCA GRANDE (A.P. Indy) is
another who's been competing at shorter distances. The dark bay miss was second
in the Test S. (G1) and fourth in the Ballerina Breeders' Cup S. (G1) in her
past two, but captured the nine-furlong Demoiselle S. (G2) as a juvenile last
November. Boca Grande owns the numbers to get the job done, and we wouldn't be
surprised to see her in front at the wire. Julien Leparoux will be in the
saddle.
TESSA BLUE (Awesome Again) led for much of the Prairie Meadows Oaks last out
before being worn down late. The Frank Brothers-conditioned dark bay
still earned a career-best 96 BRIS Speed figure and will threaten if she runs
back to that effort. LE CHATEAU (Chester House) has been competitive against
this level in the past and will probably relish the drop down after taking on
the Gazelle S. (G1) in her last one. Consider for the bottom of the gimmicks.
FOREST HUNTRESS (Forestry) and POLYNESIAN KITTY (High Yield) have both posted huge wins of late, but those have come against lesser company. We think
these two will earn a share, but can't back any more than that.
BAVARIAN BELLE (More Than Ready) was a nice winner of the grassy Summer
Finale S. last out at Mountaineer Park, but we can't recommend because the
chestnut lass seems to prefer the turf. MARQUISE (Cape Town) and AMATURE'S PRIZE
(Pure Prize) both own lower numbers than others in here and probably won't be
able to keep up. UNFORGOTTEN (Northern Afleet) would need someone to scratch to
draw into the field as an also-eligible, but will probably find this one too
long for her tastes.
