Mr. & Mrs. Jerome S. Moss' TARLOW (Stormin Fever) grabbed the lead soon after

the start of Saturday's $200,000

La Canada S. (G2) at Santa Anita and was never

challenged as she posted a two-length victory under Pat Valenzuela. Trained by

John Shirreffs, the dark bay miss set splits of :22 4/5, :46 4/5 and 1:10 2/5

while Iflookscouldkill (Wild Escapade) and A. P. Adventure (A.P. Indy) tracked

behind. As the field approached the turn, Amorama (Fr) (Sri Pekan) and Sweet Lips

(Kris S.) started closing the huge gap that separated them from the top three,

but it was all Tarlow, who pulled away to finish nine furlongs on the wet-fast

track in 1:48 3/5.

Sent off at nearly 5-1, Tarlow was worth $11.80, $6 and $2.10 while keying the

$26.80 exacta ($1). Sweet Lips managed to get up a half-length in front of 4-5

favorite A. P. Adventure to take second at 5-2, giving back $4.40 and $2.10, while show was worth $2.10. Amorama and Iflookscouldkill finished out the order

under the wire.

Tarlow broke through with a first stakes win here after finishing third in

the second leg of the La Canada series, the El Encino S. (G2), in mid-January.

The four-year-old miss also owns a runner-up finish in the Oak Leaf S. (G2) from

2003 and now shows a 9-3-3-1, $259,740 career line. Bred in Kentucky by Brereton

C. Jones, Tarlow is out of stakes winner and multiple Grade 3-placed Madam Bear

(Dreadnought), who has an unraced three-year-old colt named Aiken Pike (Mazel Trick)

and an unnamed yearling full brother to the La Canada winner.

Tarlow sold at the 2002 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $275,000 to her

current connections.
