TRACK BANDIT PREVIEWS

An overflow field of 13 was entered for Saturday's $200,000 La Prevoyante H.

(G2) at Calder, and the 1 1/2-mile turf test features a match-up between the

winners of the two divisions of September's Glens Falls H. (G3). ARVADA (GB)

(Hernando [Fr]) returned off her front-running, half-length victory in the

second division to finish third in the Long Island H. (G2) last out after

holding a slight advantage in the stretch. HUMAITA (Ger) (Surumu) earned her

Glens Falls win by a half-length as well, but comes into this one off a gutsy

nose score in the Dowager S. at Keeneland in late October. Either one of these

two fillies can add the La Prevoyante to her record, but we'll try to beat both

with SAVEDBYTHELIGHT (Saint Ballado).

Trained by Richard Violette Jr., the four-year-old miss has yet to post a win

this season, but has been close in most all of her starts. She finished third to

Humaita in the first division of the Glens Falls, but was only 1 3/4 lengths

back after setting the pace in the 11-furlong test. While the dark bay filly

will be stretching out an extra furlong here, she's proven she can handle the

added distance after running second in the 1 1/2-mile Orchid H. (G2) earlier

this year. Savedbythelight found herself chasing the field in the Long Island

last out, a position she doesn't seem to like, but still managed to get up for

fourth at the wire. A three-furlong move in :35 1/5 on Sunday helped get her

ready for this one, and Jose Valdivia Jr. will be aboard for the first time.

Arvada looks to be the better of the two Glens Falls winners. The bay

four-year-old has earned some nice numbers since coming to the United States,

including a 111 BRIS Late Pace figure for the Glens Falls as well as a 99 BRIS

Speed rating. The Bobby Frankel trainee seems to prefer the lead and is speedy

enough to find herself in that position here despite breaking from the 10-hole.

Edgar Prado has the call on Arvada and the pair will probably try to take it all

the way to the wire.

Humaita earned a field-best 101 Speed rating for her Dowager victory last out

and consistently posts triple-digit Late Pace figures as well. The H. Graham

Motion charge has experience winning off the break, taking the Sabin S. at

Belmont Park after an almost two-month layoff. All but one of her four wins this

year have come against stakes company and the chestnut lass could add to that

mark here with Cornelio Velasquez in the saddle.

SOMETHING VENTURED (Cobra King) broke through with her first win of 2004 in

the My Charmer H. (G3) most recently. She garnered a century-topping 121 Late

Pace rating for that length score and comes from the barn of Todd Pletcher. The

dark bay mare loves Calder (5-2-2-1) and will have jockey Jerry Bailey holding

the reins, a plus in her favor. She could surprise with a second straight score.

DERRIANNE (Cozzene) has yet to go beyond 8 1/2 furlongs, but could appreciate

the added distance. The Christophe Clement-conditioned gray finished a rallying

third in the second division of the Soft Parade S. over this course last out,

just 1 3/4 lengths back of the winner. Though the four-year-old doesn't own

quite the same numbers as the ones above, she could still threaten for the win. LENATAREESE (Broad Brush) finished a nose back in second in the Mrs. Revere S.

(G2) after racing seven wide in the 1 1/16-mile event. She earned a 103 Late

Pace rating for her game run in the stretch and could utilize that same move

here to challenge in the top three.

LITERACY (Diesis [GB]) came in a half-length in front of Arvada in the Long

Island most recently at 16-1 and could go off at nice odds again on Saturday.

The bay four-year-old seems to like the longer distances (3-0-1-1) and could

show up in the exotics. OCEAN SILK (Dynaformer) is a game competitor on the

turf, but was forced to try the sloppy main track in her last one after a

grassy optional claimer at Churchill Downs was moved off the green. She ran a

respectable third in that one, and could improve on that placing here while

returning to the turf. HONEY RYDER (Last Approval) is slightly erratic, running

a good race before throwing in a poor effort in her next start. She worked a

nice half-mile in :48 on Sunday to get ready for this one and shouldn't be

completely discounted from gimmicks consideration.

IOWA'S IMAGE (Halo's Image) has done well at Calder this season, winning a

stakes and placing in two others, but might not be able to handle these at this

time. We'll watch to see how she fares in her graded debut. MY DEAR LADY (Arg)

(Mutakddim) is a two-time Group 2 winner in her native Argentina this year, but

will be making only her second U.S. start in this spot. We'll go against based

on her last one. COZIE ADVANTAGE (Tactical Advantage) will be making her first

start for trainer Richard Sacco here, but we can't recommend at this time.

KRASNAYA (Red Ransom) is listed as an also-eligible but doesn't look fast

enough to challenge against these even if she draws in.
