Ellenay Racing's homebred LEROY'S DYNAMEAUX gave his sire Leroidesanimaux (Brz)

a Father's Day gift when rallying to victory in Sunday's $100,000

Will

Rogers S. (G3) at Hollywood Park. By collaring pacesetter Macias (Purge) in

deep stretch, and then staving off the rally of 7-5 favorite Bogie (Ire)

(Pivotal), the Mark Glatt trainee became the first stakes winner for his Eclipse

Award-winning sire.

A close third in the May 15 Alcatraz S. in his stakes debut, Leroy's

Dynameaux was ignored at 13-1 in the wagering when stepping up into graded

company here. Joel Rosario allowed the gelding to settle in seventh, far off the

frenetic early pace carved out by Macias, who winged his way through splits of

:22 4/5, :45 3/5 and 1:10. Bogie bided his time as last of the octet, and the

fans' choice had to swing out wide for a clear run into the stretch.

Meanwhile, Macias still held a two-length lead in midstretch, but his

pursuers finally began to make headway inside the final furlong. Leroy's

Dynameaux burst from the chasing pack to overtake him, getting first run on

Bogie. That turned out to the winning move, for even though Bogie was steadily

gaining, he could not peg back Leroy's Dynameaux in time. The winner had a neck

to spare at the wire in a final time of 1:40 2/5 for 1 1/16 miles on the firm

turf.

Leroidesanimaux still holds the course mark of 1:38 2/5, established in the

2004 Inglewood H. (G3).

Leroy's Dynameaux paid $29.20, $10 and $6 while keying the $1 exotics --

$45.50 (exacta), $203.80 (trifecta) and $822.30 (7-8-9-5 superfecta). Bogie gave

his supporters $3.60 and $2.60, and Macias stayed on doggedly another

half-length back for third, returning $3.20 at 4-1. Hudson Landing (Maria's Mon)

and Dream Nettie (Dixie Union), the respective top two finishers from the

Alcatraz, wound up fourth and fifth in the Will Rogers. Camp Victory (Forest

Camp), Who's Up (Graeme Hall) and Ukandoit (Northern Afleet) rounded out the

order under the wire. Summer Movie (Holy Bull) was scratched.

Leroy's Dynameaux boosted his bankroll to $102,800 from his 4-2-1-1 line. The

dark bay gelding has raced exclusively on turf so far. After breaking his maiden

sprinting about 6 1/2 furlongs on Santa Anita's downhill turf on March 26, he

finished runner-up to Ukandoit in an allowance/optional claimer over the same

course and distance on April 15. Leroy's Dynameaux stretched out to two turns

for the first time in the Alcatraz, where he rushed up to contest the pace

before boxing on for third.

"We got the pace scenario that we expected," Glatt said of the Will Rogers.

"I'm kind of surprised he went off at such a big mutuel because the horse ran

extremely well at Golden Gate. He was moved way prematurely and it was his first

time around two turns. He had to improve. Whether that would be good enough to

win this race remained to be seen. I had a lot of confidence going into the

race.

"That's the thing, he doesn't want to get beat. Other horses may be more

talented than him, but he wants to get it and that will win a lot of these

races."

The Kentucky-bred sophomore is a half-brother to two other stakes performers

-- New Joysey Jeff (Bright Launch), who was runner-up in the 2006 Will Rogers

and also third in that season's San Vicente S. (G2), and Grade 3 heroine Dyna Da

Wyna (Doc's Leader), who has gone on to produce stakes winner and Grade 3-placed

Sumo (Fusaichi Pegasus).

Leroy's Dynameaux is out of the Dynaformer mare Dyna Peak, whose latest

offspring are an unnamed yearling filly by Street Sense and a 2010 colt by

Bernardini. This is the family of multiple Grade 1 turf star and $2

million-earner Honey Ryder (Lasting Approval), Grade 3 queen Cuando Puede (Lord

at War [Arg]) and 1975 Kentucky Oaks (G2) victress, Sun and Snow (*Hawaii).
