Lost in the Fog to skip Triple Crown

Undefeated Swale S. (G2) winner LOST IN THE FOG (Lost Solider) will skip the

Triple Crown, according to a report in the Thoroughbred Times.

"I just didn't really think that we would have enough time to get a two-turn

race into the horse if you're talking the Kentucky Derby (G1), and I certainly

didn't feel that would be the proper way to do it," trainer Greg Gilchrist said.

"The whole nomination thing was about the Preakness (S. [G1]), because we

thought that it might be a spot to go. We had never given the Belmont (S. [G1])

much consideration."

Gilchrist said the dark bay is fine physically and will be pointed toward

sprint races. Possibilities for his next start include the Bay Shore S. (G3) at

Aqueduct on April 9, the Lost Code Breeders' Cup S. at Hawthorne, also on April

9, and the Lafayette S. (G3) at Keeneland on April 10.

"The races just aren't coming up like we would like them to come up to get

him (to the Triple Crown races)," Gilchrist said. "And this isn't to say that we'll never stretch him

out."

Lost in the Fog, who is not currently nominated to the Triple Crown, could

become eligible for the series if his connections paid the $6,000 late

nomination fee by March 26.
