Magic Millions ends with record gross
The 2006 Magic Millions National Sale concluded its 11-day run on the Gold
Coast Sunday with the final session of the
broodmare sale. Total
gross for the marathon auction was A$71.4 million--up A$19-million from last
year's record
figure of A$52.4 million. During the final session of the auction, 135
broodmares sold for
A$646,900 and an average of A$4,792.
TWILIGHT MOON (Grand Lodge), cataloged as Lot No.
2330,
attracted the day's highest price when sold for A$32,500 to Magic Millions,
acting as agent
for a Korean client. From the consignment of Raheen Stud, as agent for Starcrest
Thoroughbreds, the eight-year-old mare is in foal to Dane Shadow.
"It has
been a
marvelous sale," Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester said. "Right
from the start to
the finish, the National Sale has been a record breaker. The Yearling Sale
boasted a record
gross and average, the Weanling Sale also had a record gross and average and
then the select
mares did the same."
