Main Sequence tunes up for Dubai Sheema Classic

On the eve of his departure for Dubai, dual Eclipse Award winner Main Sequence (Aldebaran) got in one last move at his Palm Meadows headquarters Monday. The Graham Motion-trained star breezed seven furlongs on the firm turf in 1:27.00, around the "dogs," in company with Glenard (Arch). His workmate, a fast-finishing second in the February 21 Fair Grounds H. (G3) in his U.S. debut, was caught in 1:27.35. Main Sequence was voted champion older male and champion turf male after going unbeaten in four 2014 starts, culminating in the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1). The six-year-old gelding picked up right where he left off with another victory in the February 21 Mac Diarmida (G2) at Gulfstream Park. Still perfect since joining Motion, Main Sequence will put that record on the line in a loaded renewal of the March 28 Dubai Sheema Classic (UAE-G1) at about 1 1/2 miles on turf. His rivals are expected to include Breeders' Cup Turf runner-up Flintshire (Dansili), Hong Kong Horse of the Year Designs on Rome (Holy Roman Emperor), Japan's Harp Star (Deep Impact) and One and Only (Heart's Cry), and the Aga Khan's homebred Dolniya (Azamour), who just edged Flintshire in a Chantilly all-weather prep.

Main Sequence's traveling companion, Quadrivium (Henrythenavigator),
negotiated five furlongs on the fast main track in 1:01 2/5. From the immediate
family of Main Sequence's sire, Aldebaran, Quadrivium is sweating out an
invitation to the Godolphin Mile (UAE-G2) on Meydan's dirt. He comes off
unplaced efforts in the San Pasqual (G2) and the Fair Grounds 'Cap.
Also working at Palm Meadows Monday was Green Mask (Mizzen Mast), a Wesley
Ward trainee who is headed to the Al Quoz Sprint (UAE-G1). Second in both
Tampa's Turf Dash and the Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint this season, the
four-year-old gelding covered five grassy furlongs in 1:01 2/5.
At Payson Park, Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) contender Lea (First Samurai) toured
a half-mile on the fast track in :49. The Bill Mott charge exits a second as the
defending champion in the Donn H. (G1) to Constitution (Tapit), who was ruled
out of the World Cup by a sore shin.
At Santa Anita, U.A.E. Derby (UAE-G2) hopeful Gallicado (Asiatic Boy) worked
one mile in 1:40 2/5 over a fast main track for Hall of Famer Ron McAnally. The
import is unbeaten in three lifetime starts, including two Group 1s, in his
native Argentina.
The U.S. team, led by Horse of the Year California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit), is
scheduled to ship out on Tuesday.
