Malibu Moon colt tops Fasig-Tipton Midlantic session

A Malibu Moon colt brought a final bid of $117,000 from Dell Ennis at

Monday's opening session of the Fasig-Tipton Eastern Fall Yearlings

Sale in Timonium, Maryland. Offered from the Paramount Sales, agent,

consignment, the March 14-foaled Pennsylvania-bred toured the ring as Hip No.

126.

The session-topper is the second registered foal out of Two Chimneys (Deputy

Commander). She is a half-sister to the Grade 1-winning Spinning Round

(Dixieland Band), the dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Dream Supreme (Seeking the

Gold), who in turn produced the 2007 Hopeful S. (G1) winner Majestic Warrior

(A.P. Indy) and his stakes-winning full sister Crystal Current.

The yearling had RNA'd for $19,000 as a Keeneland November weanling.

PREACHINTOTHEDEVIL (Pulpit), the first registered foal out of the 2005

Prioress S. (G1) winner Acey Deucey (Abaginone) went to Wes Carter, agent, for

$85,000. The February 8 colt was offered as Hip 272 from the consignment of

Crossroads Sales Agency, agent.

Acey Deucey, who also scored victories in the Comely S. (G2) and Dearly

Precious S. in 2005, retired with a mark of 12-5-2-1, $384,146. Her second dam

was the 1977 champion older mare Cascapedia (Chieftain), who produced Grade 2

winner Glacial Stream (Crystal Water) and the Grade 3 victress Cascading Gold (Mr.

Prospector). Cascapedia was also the second dam of U.A.E highweight Big Jag (Kleven)

as well as Australian Group 1 winner Republic Lass (Canny Lad).

Preachintothedevil was previously a $75,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling in

August.

Two fillies each went to Nick DeMeric, agent, for $57,000. Hip 149, by

Congrats, hailed from the consignment of Moreau Bloodstock International, agent.

The May 18 Florida-bred is out of the stakes-placed Western Resolve (West by

West), a half-sister to the multiple stakes-winning Wanna Cuddle (Leestown), and

is from the family of Grade 2 winners Terra Incognita (Quack) and Nightmare

Affair (Out of Place).

The session's other leading filly was MAY FAY (El Corredor), the first

registered foal from the stakes-placed Baby Lou (Alydeed), a half-sister to the

stakes-winning Frankiefourfingers (Elusive Quality). From the family of Grade 3

winners Alysweep (End Sweep) and Silent Greeting (Secret Hello), the

Kentucky-bred was offered by Candyland, agent, and sported Hip 210. She was

previously a $38,000 Keeneland November weanling.

On Monday, the first of two sale days, 191 yearlings grossed $2,476,600, a

decline of 11 percent from 2008, when 171 head brought $2,783,400 on the first of

three sale days. The average was down 20.3 percent, from $16,277 to $12,966,

while the median was off 35 percent, from $10,000 to $6,500.
