Millennium Wind sires first winner

Last updated: 8/19/06 10:00 PM

MILLENNIUM WIND (Cryptoclearance), winner of the 2001 Blue Grass S. (G1) and

Santa Catalina S. (G2), was represented by his first winner at stud when his

two-year-old daughter Allie P. took the 6TH race at Yavapai on Saturday. The

Larry Wells trainee, making her debut here, completed the one mile in a solid

1:36 1/5 while finishing 16 1/4 lengths clear at the wire under Kristina Kenney.

Making his debut in the winter of his two-year-old campaign, Millennium Wind

served notice that he was a force to be reckoned with, cruising home an impressive

three-length winner at Hollywood Park. The flashy colt then stepped up to graded

company and finished a strong second in the Hollywood Futurity (G1). Opening his

three-year-old campaign with a win in the Santa Catalina, he followed that with a runner-up performance in the Louisiana Derby

(G2). The colt then took the Blue Grass but finished unplaced in his final two

outings, the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Skywalker H.

Millennium Wind was purchased at the 1999 Keeneland September Yearling Sale

for $1.2 million by his owners, David and Jill Heerensperger, and was trained by

David Hofmans. For his career, Millennium Wind boasted a mark of 7-3-2-0 with

earnings of $769,920. Produced from Bali Babe (Drone), the colt was preceded in

stakes glory by a pair of half-brothers -- 1999 champion three-year-old Charismatic (Summer Squall),

winner of the Kentucky Derby (G1), Preakness S. (G1) and Lexington S. (G2); and Grade 2 winner Tossofthecoin (Magesterial).

Millennium Wind stands at Highcliff Farm near Delanson, New York, for a fee of

$5,000.
