Mine That Bird's work postponed because of muddy track
In light of a wet track Monday morning at Churchill Downs, trainer Chip
Woolley decided to delay Kentucky Derby (G1) winner MINE THAT BIRD's (Birdstone)
work until Tuesday.
"The track was a little wet on top today, and we had no reason to rush him,
so we just decided to wait until tomorrow to work him," Woolley said. "We
can work him back in six days next Monday and be back on our regular schedule."
Instead of breezing as originally scheduled Monday, Mine That Bird galloped
once around the one-mile track that was officially listed as muddy. Regular
exercise rider Rudy Gallegos was aboard.
Woolley said that Mine That Bird would breeze Tuesday just after the
midsession break for track maintenance, around 8:30 a.m. (EDT), and jockey Jamie
Theriot would be aboard for the move.
Third to Summer Bird (Birdstone) in the June 6 Belmont S. (G1) last time out,
Mine That Bird is aiming to reappear in the $750,000 West Virginia Derby (G2) at
Mountaineer on August 1. Mike Smith will pick up the mount.
