Nyquist brings impressive form to Del Mar Futurity

Last updated: 9/4/15 6:36 PM

Nyquist (Indian Mo) improved to two for two with a smashing victory in the

August 8 Best Pal (G2) at Del Mar, registering a 102 BRIS Speed and 106 Late

Pace rating for the 5 1/4-length decision, and the Doug O'Neill-trained colt

figures to be a solid favorite when he lines up for Monday's $300,000 Del Mar

Futurity (G1). The Doug O'Neill-trained colt heads a field of eight in the

closing-day feature at seven furlongs.

Debut maiden winners Blameitonthelaw and Mt Veeder appear to be his top

rivals. John Sadler sends out the former and the latter is conditioned by Bob

Baffert, who will seek to pad his record with a 13th Del Mar Futurity victory.

The Hall of Famer was represented by eventual Triple Crown winner American

Pharoah last year.

The seaside track will also offer the $100,000 Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf

at a mile and the $80,000 Pirate's Bounty at six furlongs. Both races attracted

full fields of 12.
