Champion juvenile colt Nyquist remain undefeated following his three-year-old
debut at Santa Anita Monday in the $200,000 San Vicente (G2) going seven
furlongs. The 2-5 favorite defeated Exaggerator by 1 1/2 lengths in brisk time
of 1:20.71.
Not long afterwards, at Oaklawn Park,
Suddenbreakingnews rallied from last in a field of 14 to win the $500,000
Southwest (G3) by 2 3/4 lengths. Part of a coupled entry that went off at
4-1, Suddenbreakingnews was ridden by Luis Quinonez.
Also on Monday, the hard-hitting gelding Page McKenney, a two-turn
specialist,
made a successful cut back in distance when taking the $250,000 General George
(G3) by a head at Laurel going seven furlongs.
The Baltimore Sun and other media outlets have reported
the death last Thursday of prominent Thoroughbred owner Harry Meyerhoff, who
campaigned all-time great Spectacular Bid.

Alexandra (G3) for three-year-old fillies. Other undercard stakes include
the Fair Grounds H. (G3) featuring Chocolate Ride and the Mineshaft H. (G3) with
International Star and Eagle.
Call Pat rallied for a half-length victory in the $100,000 Bayakoa (G3) at
Oaklawn Park.
