Oaks fillies in Louisville enjoy a quiet Sunday

Last updated: 4/18/10 8:02 PM

Busanda S. heroine AGE OF HUMOR (Distorted Humor) walked the shedrow at trainer Mike Maker's barn at the

Trackside Training Center Sunday, one day after working five furlongs in a

bullet :59 4/5 with Kentucky Derby (G1) contender Dean's Kitten (Kitten's Joy).

A near-miss second in the Bourbonette Oaks (G3) last out, Age of Humor is in

danger of not getting into the Kentucky Oaks (G1) field. The bay filly is 20th

on the graded earnings list for a race limited to 14 starters, but she is

scheduled to work again next Saturday as she keeps her Oaks hopes alive.

Multiple Grade 1-placed BEAUTICIAN (Dehere) galloped after the renovation break

at Churchill Downs

Sunday morning under exercise rider Marvin Obrego. A disappointing last of eight

in the Ashland S. (G1), the gray is scheduled to work Tuesday for trainer Ken McPeek.

CRISP (El Corredor) winner of the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) in her

most recent

start, walked the shedrow at Barn 42 on Sunday morning a day after working six

furlongs in 1:15 1/5 under Lupillo Alferez.

Joel Rosario, who has ridden Crisp in her past three starts, is slated to ride

the

John Sadler trainee in the Kentucky Oaks.

Trainer Jim Cassidy confirmed Sunday that Ashland heroine EVENING JEWEL

(Northern Afleet) is on course for the Kentucky Oaks, and Kent Desormeaux has

the return call. Evening Jewel had drilled five furlongs in 1:00 at her Santa

Anita base on Saturday.

IT'S TEA TIME (Dynaformer), a terrific runner-up after having to alter course

late in the

Ashland, is scheduled to ship to Churchill

Downs

from Keeneland on Monday according to Jack Bohannan, assistant to trainer Rusty

Arnold.

It's Tea Time worked a half-mile in company in :49 at Keeneland on Friday.

Trainer Barry Rose said Sunday afternoon that multiple Grade 2-placed JOANIE'S

CATCH (First Tour) would be headed from Calder to Churchill Downs on April 26.

"That is what we are planning on," Rose said. "She breezed yesterday at

Calder (:51 3/5 for a half-mile), and I plan to work her again next Saturday. Paco Lopez

will

ride."

Silverbulletday S. (G3) queen JODY SLEW (Slew City Slew), seventh in the Fair

Grounds Oaks (G2) after a minor setback, walked the

shedrow at Barn 22 on Sunday morning. Trained by Bret Calhoun, Jody Slew had worked

a

half-mile in :50 at Churchill Downs on Friday morning. Assistant trainer

Dennis "Peaches" Geier said that Jody Slew would return to

the track Monday morning and work again on Friday.

Trainer Dale Romans' duo of Kentucky Oaks contenders -- QUIET TEMPER (Quiet

American) and SASSY IMAGE (Broken Vow) -- galloped on Sunday morning at

Churchill Downs, each with Javier Tapia in the saddle.

Fair Grounds Oaks victress Quiet Temper figures to

be one of the favorites for the Kentucky Oaks. Sassy Image, winner of the Golden Rod

S. (G2) and Pocahontas S. (G3) last fall at Churchill Downs, has sufficient

graded earnings to line up in the Oaks. She has not raced since a poor effort in the Davona Dale

S.

(G2) at

Gulfstream Park on February 27, however, and a workout scheduled for Wednesday could

be the deciding factor on a possible Oaks bid.

Trainer Dallas Stewart said that SEEKING THE TITLE (Seeking the Gold) jogged Sunday under exercise rider Pedro Velez.

Stewart is hoping that the well-bred bay, who finished in a dead-heat

for third with SHEER BEAUTY (Mizzen Mast) in the Fair Grounds Oaks, will make the

Kentucky Oaks field. But Seeking the Title remains on the outside-looking-in with only

$21,000 in

career graded earnings and is tied with Sheer Beauty for 21st on a list of 24

prospective Oaks

starters.

Stewart said that he would likely look toward the May 14 Black-Eyed Susan S. (G2) at Pimlico

for Seeking the Title's next race if she does not make the Kentucky Oaks field.

Trainer and co-owner Bernie Flint said that Sheer Beauty was doing well and walked

Sunday. The winner of the

Caressing H. on the turf at Churchill Downs last fall, Sheer Beauty had worked

four furlongs Saturday in :48 2/5.

Flint is pessimistic that the filly will be able to compete in the

Kentucky Oaks

because of her small amount of graded stakes earnings ($21,000). He has

indicated that

the Eight Belles (G3) at 7 1/2 furlongs on Kentucky Derby Day at Churchill

Downs

could be his alternative if she does not make the Kentucky Oaks.

TIDAL POOL (Yankee Gentleman), runner-up to BLIND LUCK (Pollard's Vision) in

the recent Fantasy S. (G2), jogged after the renovation break

under

Leeanne Bates for Hall of Fame trainer and four-time Kentucky Oaks winner D.

Wayne

Lukas.
