Offspring by Strong Mandate, Uncle Mo top final OBS session

A colt by Strong Mandate and a filly by Uncle Mo each brought $775,000 Wednesday at the final session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training.

The Strong Mandate colt, Hip No. 447, was gaveled down to Carolyn Wilson. From the first crop of his Hopeful (G1)-winning sire, the January 29 Kentucky-bred was offered by Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), agent. Reared by Majestic Stinger, by Majestic Warrior, the co-session topper worked one furlong in :9 4/5 at the under tack show.

The Uncle Mo filly, consigned by Eddie Woods, agent, sold to Solis/Litt. Hip 459, is a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Southern Honey and stakes winner Calithirty Seven. This is the family of current Kentucky Derby (G1) prospect McKinzie.

Out of Mama Tia, by Carson City, the May 17 Kentucky-bred worked a quarter-mile in :21 2/5 at the under tack show.

On Wednesday, 123 horses sold for $21,877,000, a decline of 26.4 percent from last year's second session when 153 juveniles sold for $29,743,500. The average was down 8.5 percent, from $194,402 to $177,862, while the session median was up 37.1 percent, from $87,500 to $120,000.

Cumulatively, 248 horses sold for $42,299,000, down 25.1 percent from last year when 301 head brought $56,510,000. The average dipped 9.2 percent, from $187,741 to $170,560, while the median rose 15.8 percent, from $95,000 to $110,000.
