third in last year's edition, the Brian Meehan runner is training up to the
October 25 Turf (G1) at Santa Anita.
Champion INDIAN BLESSING (Indian Charlie), victress of the Gallant Bloom
H. (G2) last time, worked seven furlongs in 1:24 4/5 over Santa Anita's Pro-Ride
surface on Sunday in preparation for the October 24 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare
Sprint.
"It was very nice," trainer Bob Baffert said. "It was a steady
three-quarters. They got her galloping out seven-eighths, but it was really
nice. She was relaxed She didn't go too fast, but fast enough. She looked good."
Multiple Grade 1 winner COUNTRY STAR (Empire Maker), last-out winner
of an allowance/optional claimer on grass at Saratoga, worked toward the Ladies'
Classic (G1) (formerly Distaff) with a half-mile work in :47 2/5.
Vosburgh S. (G1) winner BLACK SEVENTEEN (Is It True) drilled four
furlongs in a bullet :46 4/5 for the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1).
Hawthorne Gold Cup (G1) winner FAIRBANKS (Giant's Causeway), a
candidate for the Breeders' Cup Marathon, logged five furlongs in 1:00 2/5.
Grade 2 heroine BEAR NOW (Tiznow), victorious in the Kentucky Cup
Distaff (G3) by four lengths last time, tuned-up for the Ladies' Classic with a
five-furlong move in :58 4/5.
Best Pal S. (G2) winner AZUL LEON (Lion Heart), sixth in the Norfolk
S. (G1) last time, went four panels in :48 in preparation for the Juvenile (G1).
"He worked super and galloped out great," trainer Doug O'Neill said. "We're
excited about rebounding after the Norfolk disappointment. We were far back
early, but there were no major excuses."
Kentucky Cup Sprint (G3) winner FATAL BULLET (Red Bullet) went five
furlongs in 1:00 in preparation for the Sprint.
Sapling S. (G3) hero SILENT VALOR (Lion Heart), fifth in the Norfolk and another
Juvenile candidate, traveled five furlongs in 1:00 2/5.
Stakes winner ALBERTUS MAXIMUS (Albert the Great), third in the
Goodwood S. (G1) last time, sped five furlongs in :58 4/5 for the "Dirt" Mile.
On Santa Anita's firm turf course, Clement L. Hirsch Turf Championship (G1)
winner RED GIANT (Giant's Causeway) prepped for the Turf with a
four-furlong exercise in :48 4/5.
Grade 1 winner BLACK MAMBA (NZ) (Black Minnaloushe), last-out third in
the Yellow Ribbon S. (G1), went five furlongs in 1:01 1/5 for the October 24
Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1).
Canadian International (Can-G1) upsetter MARSH SIDE (Gone West)
prepped for the Breeders' Cup Turf with a four-furlong breeze in :50 2/5 over
the Hollywood Park Cushion Track.
BOURBON BAY (Sligo Bay [Ire]), runner-up in the Cradle S. at River
Downs September 1, sped four furlongs in :47 1/5 toward a possible tilt in the
Juvenile Turf.
Grade 2 winner DELIGHTFUL KISS (Kissin Kris), a one-length winner of
the All American S. (G3) last month, sped four furlongs in a bullet :46 3/5 over
the Tapeta surface at Golden Gate Fields in preparation for the Marathon.
