Dotsy pulls off 11-1 surprise in Frizette

Dotsy easily won her first start at Saratoga in late August by four lengths, albeit in an auction maiden event. Despite taking a significant hike in class for Saturday’s $500,000 Frizette (G1) at Belmont Park, the daughter of Tacitus turned in another solid performance to win the one-mile test by 2 3/4 lengths as an 11-1 chance.
Pouncing from third after rating in very close attendance, Dotsy kicked clear late under Kendrick Carmouche to make it 2-for-2. Rum Twist finished second by 1 1/4 lengths over Revenge of the Sis, while 4-5 favorite Libby Lloyd weakened to fourth. Velora, Girls Wear Pearls, and She’s a Twelve rounded out the order of finish.
Dotsy finished up in 1:36.07 over a fast track and paid $25.02. Owned by TSP Enterprises, Dotsy was the first stakes training success for John Grabowski, a former jockey.
“This is the most incredible experience of my life, other than my two daughters being born. This is the greatest moment of my life,” Grabowski said. “I’ve got a stable of nine right now, all at Finger Lakes. I had a hell of a career riding, but this is it. This is the top.”
“Kendrick and I need to discuss where we’re going with her, because I really wasn’t planning on going to the Breeders’ Cup. We have to think about it. We’re going home to Finger Lakes tomorrow.”
Dotsy earned 10 qualifying points toward the 2027 Kentucky Oaks (G1). Rum Twist earned five points, Revenge of the Sis three points, Libby Lloyd two points, and Velora one point.
Bred in Kentucky, Dotsy is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Dirt Monster. Both were reared by Coqui, by Fusaichi Pegasus.
Domestic Agenda was a most impressive winner of the $250,000 Miss Grillo (G2), her last-to-first rally resulting in a 4 1/2-length triumph under Flavien Prat.
Favored at slightly under even-money, Domestic Agenda secured a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) at Keeneland on Oct. 30. Off this effort, Domestic Agenda might vie for favoritism in that race.
Owned by Klaravich Stables and trained by Chad Brown. Domestic Agenda paid $3.94 after completing 1 1/16 miles in 1:41.34 on firm ground. Bounce Back finished second, two lengths ahead of Golden Siren.
“I love the way that she powered away,” said Brown, who was winning the Miss Grillo for a 10th time, including five times with future Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winners. “I know she swapped leads late when she got bored and wasn’t around other horses, she’s a work in progress.
“She’s still not finished, but that was a big step forward from her debut which I thought she was quite green in the second turn. She was much more professional for the majority of the race today, and I think there is more to come from her.”
A daughter of American Pharoah, Domestic Agenda was a half-length winner of her debut at Saratoga on Sept. 4 going the same distance. She descends from Plenty of Grace, who landed the 1990 editions of the Yellow Ribbon (G1) and Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G2).
It was a big day for the broodmare Ready to Unleash, a daughter of More Than Ready who produced two graded winners on Saturday. The first was Brickyard Belle, who rallied to defeat pacesetter Harper’s Corner in the $200,000 Matron (G3) going six furlongs on the grass.
Favored at approximately 6-5 in the Matron, Brickyard Belle made it 2-for-2 while following up on a 4 1/2-length maiden win at Saratoga on Aug. 27. Ridden again by Manny Franco, Brickyard Belle covered the Matron distance in 1:08.26 and paid $4.38. Harper’s Corner finished second by 2 1/4 lengths over More Champagne. Eight ran.
Owned by Brickyard Belle Racing, Beggs and Flowers, and Briles Family Style, the Miguel Clement-trained Brickyard Belle is a Yaupon half-sister to Joe Sheisty, who captured the Woodford (G3) at Keeneland later Saturday afternoon.
“She was very impressive today. Not many fillies can make up six or seven lengths in the stretch like she did,” said Clement, who indicated Brickyard Belle would be considered for the Oct. 30 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) at Keeneland. “Without a doubt. I’ve had worse ideas.”
