Since adding blinkers last fall, She Feels Pretty has won all four of her starts, three of them in Grade 1 events. The leading older filly and mare on the turf so far this season, She Feels Pretty, will look to maintain control of the division on Saturday in the $500,000 Diana (G1) at Saratoga.
The weather and course conditions at Saratoga figure to be more hospitable this weekend than they were for last month's New York (G1). Despite the wet, slow-playing nature of grass, She Feels Pretty's class came through in the New York, which she won by a half-length over soft-course specialist Beach Bomb.
Chad Brown has trained eight of the last nine winners of the 1 1/8-mile Diana and, on Saturday, will rely on the Just a Game (G1) one-two Dynamic Pricing and Excellent Truth. Dynamic Pricing was a 10-1 chance in taking the Just a Game over the very wet course existent on Belmont Stakes weekend, while French import Excellent Truth settled for second again as a strong favorite after occupying the same slot in the Jenny Wiley (G1) in her U.S. debut.
"In both of her starts for me, she has been unlucky," said Brown in regards to Excellent Truth. "At Keeneland, she had a rough trip in the stretch, and I'd say she is due for a cleaner trip this time around. At least, I hope so."
Fellow European raider Choisya prevailed in the Jenny Wiley by a half-length, but the Simon Crisford trainee seemingly struggled in the soft conditions when finishing a distant seventh in the Just a Game.
Be Your Best was not at her best in the Jenny Wiley, which has been her only loss in her last five starts. She rebounded to win the Gamely (G1) in wire-to-wire fashion in late May over Lady Claypoole.
The supporting feature on Saturday is the $200,000 Bowling Green (G2) for older horses over 1 3/8 miles on the inner turf, in which multiple Grade 1 veteran Far Bridge figures to be a strong favorite.
After opening his campaign with back-to-back wins in the Pan American (G3) and Man o' War (G2), Far Bridge most recently finished a neck third to stablemate Deterministic in the Manhattan (G1), which was run at a reduced distance of 1 1/8 miles.
"Maybe the distance was a touch short at that level, but I think he ran a gallant race," trainer Miguel Clement said.
