Red Bullet colt brings $2.5 million

Hip No. 80, a colt by Red Bullet named UNBRIDLED SLEW, brought a record $2.5 million

at the Barretts May Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training on Tuesday at the Hinds

Pavilion in Pomona, California. Purchased by Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Stable,

the price is the highest ever paid at the sale. At the first under tack show

last Thursday, the juvenile drilled a furlong in :9 3/5, equaling

the fastest work at that distance at a Barretts two-year-old auction and

establishing a new mark as the fastest work recorded by a colt at a Barretts

sale.

The April 9 chestnut was consigned by Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne),

agent, and is out of the unraced Avenue of Flags mare Sookloozy, a half-sister

to four stakes-placed winners, including 1986 San Vicente S. (G3) runner-up

Royal Treasure (Search for Gold). His second dam, stakes-winner Regal Air

(Olympiad King), is a half-sister to multiple stakes producer Quiet Flight (Wing

Out).

The California-bred previously sold for $190,000 at the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

John Sadler, agent, paid $410,000 for Hip 343, JUMP ON IN (Jump Start). The

price was the highest ever achieved for a filly at the Barretts May sale.

The bay filly, consigned by Sequel Bloodstock (Becky Thomas), agent, is out

of the unraced Fire Maker mare Lucky'n Loved, a half-sister to Grade 3 winner

and $440,774-earner Cassidy (Jolie's Halo) and stakes-placed winner Jetting

Along (Skip Trial). At the second under tack show last Friday, the lass worked a

quarter-mile in :21.

For the one-day sale, 200 horses sold for $10,514,500, up 37.2 percent

compared to last year when 193 horses brought an aggregate of $7,663,700. The

average price jumped 32.4 percent, from $39,708 to $52,573, while the median

price rose 8 percent, from $25,000 to $27,000.
