The $200,000 Robert G. Dick Memorial H. (G3) has attracted a stout field of
nine fillies and mares to go 1 3/8 miles over the Delaware turf. DRESS REHEARSAL
(Ire) (Galileo [Ire]) looked the part in a stylish Orchid H. (G2) romp two back
and could be the one to beat for Bill Mott. The classy bay flopped at 3-5 in the
Bewitch H. (G3) at Keeneland in her most recent appearance, but the time off to
freshen should do her well from the outside post. Richard Migliore will be in
the irons.
WINTER VIEW (Thunder Gulch) has streaked to three wins in a row for Jonathan
Sheppard, the last pair coming in Grade 3 events. The peaking chestnut is proven
at 12 furlongs and was a winner in her lone start over this strip, which should
only enhance her chances. We'd rather see Julien Leparoux back aboard, but Gabriel
Saez could prove to be an ample replacement.
ASTROLOGIE (Fr) (Polish Precedent) was knocked off stride while in the midst
of her rally last time in the All Along S. (G3), but she still managed to finish
fourth by only 1 1/2 lengths and should be primed for her best in her third
start of the year for Christophe Clement. The multiple stakes heroine should be
in contention from the outset under Ramon Dominguez, and if she improves even a
little, she figures to be close at the wire.
TRENSA (Giant's Causeway) was visually impressive in a recent allowance score
at Delaware and looks like a sneaky longshot in this cast for Michael Matz. The
chestnut mare is in very good form and bred to run long, so the added ground
could help her in this event. If Anna Napravnik could secure a ground-saving
trip early, this one can surely contend for the exotics.
CAPRICE (Ger) (Monsun) has run well against two strong graded-stakes fields in
succession for Graham Motion, and the bay mare looks like she should be
competitive against these. The stakes winner loves a route of ground and has
good positional speed, so we'll also use this one in the gimmicks. DYNA'S LASSIE
(Dynaformer) ran a big third in the All Along most recently and has finished in
the top three in eight of her last nine for crafty turf conditioner Doug Fout.
The lightly raced five-year-old was a strong second in the Matchmaker S. (G3)
last season and has kept excellent company in her career, so if the distance
suits her, she could be in the mix beneath David Cohen.
AVIE'S TALE (Tale of the Cat) has never faced foes like this and is probably
in too deep against these for trainer Timothy Salzman. The consistent filly
might be better suited in a listed stakes race. JAUNTY GALE (Tiger Ridge) has
placed once in eight races in 2009 and looks overmatched. PRECIOUS PRINCESS
(Horse Chestnut [SAf]) faded to sixth in the All Along S. (G3) last out and is
facing a deeper field on this day, so we'll pass.
