Round Pond to have knee chip removed

Acorn S. (G1) winner ROUND POND (Awesome Again), who finished second as the

even-money favorite in the Delaware Oaks (G2) last Saturday, has been taken out

of training following the discovery of small chip in her left knee, owner Rick

Porter said in his journal on rockportharbor.com.

Porter said trainer John Servis noticed the three-year-old filly was

uncomfortable on the track Thursday and scheduled X-rays for Round Pond at the

New Jersey Equine Clinic.

"She does have a small chip in the top joint of her left knee," Porter wrote.

"I have decided to stop training her and remove the chip. Dr. (Scott) Palmer

feels it must have happened in the Delaware Oaks. We had just performed X-rays

of the knee a couple of weeks ago and it was not there at that time. She will be

turned out for two months and then resume training."

Round Pond won the Honeybee S. and the Fantasy S. (G2) at Oaklawn Park prior

to her 1 1/2-length score in the Acorn. The bay filly will go to the sidelines

with a record of 6-4-1-1 and $467,300 in earnings.
