Round Table Conference news: Microchips, federal

legislation and centralized databases

The 63rd annual Round Table Conference on Matters Pertaining to Racing was

held on Sunday in Saratoga Springs, New York, and on the agenda were changes to

registration and federal legislation.

The Jockey Club announced that, beginning in 2017, microchips will be

required for foal registration. Owners may begin requesting free microchips in

2016 with their registration kits, but in 2017 the microchips will be included

for all.

The Jockey Club also made a couple of recommendations, including the need for

a centralized database for data collected during post-mortem examination of

racing-related injuries.
