Safely Kept BC

John D. Murphy Sr.'s homebred TRICKLE OF GOLD (Formal Gold) took the lead

early, fought off an imposing challenge from Partners Due (Partner's Hero) as

the field turned for home, and finished up with authority en route to a tally in

the $131,500

Safely Kept Breeders' Cup S. (G3) at Laurel Park on Sunday.

Breaking like a shot beneath Jeremy Rose, the sophomore filly smoked through

splits of :22, :44 4/5 and :57 1/5 before completing the six-furlong fast track

feature in 1:10 2/5. The dark bay went off as the 7-5 second choice, and

rewarded her backers with payoffs of $4.80, $2.40 and $2.10 for conditioner

Michael Gorham.

Maddalena (Good and Tough) was outrun early but fought back valiantly to earn

the place spot, three lengths in arrears of the winner. The even-money favorite

paid $4.20 and $2.10 and completed the paltry $7.80 exacta. Partners Due loomed

a threat turning for home but was put away quickly by the winner late,

eventually settling for third at 7-2. Show was $2.10 and the trifecta paid

$15.80.

Starleena (Malibu Moon) was a distant fourth and followed by Lady Dynasty

(Richter Scale), while Ebony Star (Zignew) and Slew Motion (Slew Gin Fizz) were

scratched.

Trickle of Gold has now won four consecutive races by a combined 28 3/4

lengths, and sports a career line of 10-5-1-3 with a bankroll of $218,425. The

Kentucky-bred filly placed in the Blue Hen S. in 2004, and is out of the winning

Tricky Starlet (Tricky Fun).
