Sahpresa heads Falmouth field

A fantastic field of fillies and mares is set to contest the £160,000

Falmouth S. (Eng-G1) on Friday at Newmarket's July Festival, headed by crack

French miler SAHPRESA (Sahm), who is seeking a third Newmarket Group 1 victory.

Rod Collet's charge has won the past two renewals of the Sun Chariot S.

(Eng-G1) over Newmarket's Rowley Mile and the six-year-old now heads to the July

Course for the first time having conquered the classy Moonlight Cloud

(Invincible Spirit) in her seasonal return in the Prix du Palais-Royal (Fr-G3)

at Longchamp last month.

Also among the 11 declarations revealed Wednesday for the contest are a pair

of talented performers from David Simcock's Trillium Place Stables, the in-form

mare FIRST CITY (Diktat) and her progressive stablemate I'M A DREAMER (Noverre).

The duo contested the Windsor Forest S. (Eng-G2) at Royal Ascot last time,

finishing third and fifth, respectively, behind Lolly For Dolly (Oratorio

[Ire]). Prior to that, the four-year-old I'm A Dreamer had stormed to a 4

1/2-length victory in the Dahlia S. (Eng-G3) going nine furlongs on the Rowley

Mile in May, while First City had filled the runner-up berth behind ANTARA (Plantini),

who also lines up here, in the Princess Elizabeth S. (Eng-G3) at Epsom on June

3.

"I have been delighted with First City this season; her last two runs have

probably been personal bests, which is another step up the ladder," Simcock

revealed Wednesday. "This looks tougher but she is in good heart and the better

the race, the better she seems to run."

First City's style of racing means that she often finishes with a strong,

closing run from the rear, as she did in the Ascot contest.

"She flatters an awful lot but, if I'm honest, what was a little

disappointing to me last time was the fact that she finished in front of I'm A

Dreamer," Simcock admitted. "We have always considered I'm A Dreamer the better

filly and that was a little disappointing at Ascot. She had done it very nicely

at Newmarket the time before; she loves fast ground. It might be that she may

now need 10 furlongs to be at her best but this comes at the right time of year

and we will have a look here and then head to the Nassau S. (Eng-G1) after this.

"We are hopeful, which is as much as we can be. It looks a hot race with the

two French fillies looking very good and Antara won very well at Epsom last

time. I think it is a very competitive Falmouth S."

As well as the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Antara, the field includes the Group

1-winning South African mare RIVER JETEZ (Jet Master) and last season's Prix de

l'Opera (Fr-G1) heroine LILY OF THE VALLEY (Galileo [Ire]) from the Jean-Claude

Rouget stable.

John Gosden has the high-class pair of Musidora S. (Eng-G3) winner JOVIALITY

(Cape Cross [GB]) and One Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1) third MAQAASID (Green

Desert), while the Sir Henry Cecil-trained TIMEPIECE (Zamindar) landed a Warwick

listed race on June 13.

Last season's Cherry Hinton S. (Eng-G2) winner MEMORY (Danehill Dancer),

trained by Richard Hannon, and the Clive Brittain-conditioned MASAYA (Dansili

[GB]), complete the line up.
