Sarah Sis headed to Keeneland
Sarah Sis headed to Keeneland
Arguably the most impressive juvenile filly maiden winner of the 2014
Arlington meet, Sarah Sis has recovered quite well from her second outing in the
$100,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie in which she was a game second to Quality
Rocks.
Trained by Ingrid Mason and owned by Joe Ragsdale, the daughter of Sharp
Humor earned an 87 BRIS Speed rating on debut -- traveling six furlongs in 1:11
and defeating the well regarded Wayne Catalano trainee Bossy by 11 3/4 lengths.
Bossy returned Friday afternoon to manhandle a field of fillies to win on second
asking.
Sarah Sis, on the other hand returned 16 days later and set a decent pace in
the aforementioned Lassie before a valiant defeat. In addition to the loss
itself, other aspects did not go as planned for the handsome dark bay charge.
"She got a little wound up," Mason explained. "She wasn't washed out or
anything, but she was really wound up and expended a lot of energy jumping
around and almost galloping in place. She just wouldn't relax. I think she lost
the race there."
With such talent, Sarah Sis is a promising prospect for the Mason stable.
Plans are to eventually return to stakes company, but first the conditioner -- a
very hands-on trainer -- wants to work Sarah Sis and cure her issues.
"She's doing really good right now," Mason continued. "She came back a little
quick into that race and that sometimes happens with babies when it comes to
their second start. They just get wound up. I'm going to work with her and work
on getting her head back to where it needs to be."
As far as the immediate future, the Kentucky-bred filly will return to the
Bluegrass State. "She's going to go to Keeneland," Mason concluded. "I'm going
to run her in a non-winners of two on the dirt. I believe it's six or six and a
half furlongs and she should do very well. I hope she gets back to herself. She
has such raw talent and I'm hoping we can settle her down so she can show it
again."
