Scat Daddy filly tops OBS session at $875,000

A filly from the final crop of Scat Daddy brought a final bid of $875,000 from Phoenix Thoroughbreds at Tuesday's opening session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. Consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds, the May 10 Kentucky-bred was offered as Hip No. 141.

Out of Accusation, by Royal Academy, the session topper is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Sharp Sensation and the stakes-placed Edgerin J, True Religion, and Innocent man. This is the family of 1997 Epsom Derby (G1) winner Benny the Dip. The filly worked one furlong in :9 4/5 at the under tack show.

Hip 151, a Pioneerof the Nile colt, was gaveled down to OXO Equine for $850,000. Consigned by Eddie Woods, agent, the May 7 Kentucky-bred is out the stakes-winning American Lady, a Stormy Atlantic half-sister to multiple Grade 3 winner The Pamplemousse. He recorded a quarter-mile in :21 1/5 at the under tack show.

At the conclusion of trading Tuesday, 111 juveniles had sold for $19,625,000, a decline of 26.7 percent from the corresponding session in 2017 when 148 horses sold for $26,766,500. The session average was only down 2.2 percent, from $180,855 to $176,802, while the median rose 5 percent, from $100,000 to $105,000.
