Sextet of New York Stallion Stakes on tap at Aqueduct

Aqueduct will play host to six events in the New York Stallion S. series on

Sunday. Juveniles, turf horses and sprinters will all find something to their

liking on the program.

Kicking off the stakes action is the $100,000

Fifth

Avenue division for juvenile fillies. Lady Finger S. heroine MOTHER RUSSIA (Mayakovsky)

will seek to remain perfect among the fillies, with her lone loss being a

respectable third against the boys in the New York Breeders' Futurity. Joseph A.

Gimma S. victress SNEAKIN UP (Hook and Ladder), the only other stakes winner in

the field, comes off a runner-up effort in the Maid of the Mist S. Trainer

Richard Dutrow will send out the coupled entry of ANJORIE (A. P. Jet) and SARAH

ACCOMPLISHED (Performing Magic). Both broke their maidens sprinting, failed to

succeed when stretching out to one mile in the Maid of the Mist, and figure to

enjoy cutting back to six furlongs in this spot. Anjorie performed much better

than her stablemate when third in the Maid of the Mist.

Colts and geldings will line up next in the $100,000

Great White Way division. TALL POPPI (Intidab) looms as the horse to beat in

this six-furlong test, having checked in second to the unbeaten Trinity Magic

(Performing Magic) in the Bertram F. Bongard S. and Sleepy Hollow S. Others to

note include HEAD HEART HOOF (Intidab), a sharp maiden winner who is eligible to

rebound from a dismal stakes debut in the Sleepy Hollow; Aspirant S. third

LOOKIN AT HER (Hook and Ladder); and clever first-out winner FOTOGRAFIA (Western

Expression).

The $75,000

Perfect

Arc division for distaffers will be contested over 1 1/16 grassy miles.

HIGHER INCENTIVE (Freud), who was third in the 2006 Perfect Arc and runner-up

last year, will hope that the third time is the charm, but she must improve on

her recent efforts to factor here. Among her top rivals are NEHANTIC KAT

(Tomorrows Cat), most recently third in the Ticonderoga H,: up-and-coming

sophomore OCALA GATOR (American Chance); the hard-knocking BELLA ATTRICE

(Tomorrows Cat); and four-time stakes-placed BORROWING BASE (Personal Flag).

LOGIC WAY (Freud), who got up late to deny GET SERIOUS (City Zip) in the

Mohawk H. last time out, will meet him again in the $75,000

Cormorant division. Also worth a look in the 1 1/16-mile turf event are

multiple stakes hero CLASSIC PACK (Regal Classic), a rallying fifth off a slow

pace in the Mohawk, and the uncoupled Barclay Tagg pair of DOC N ROLL (Wheelaway)

and DR. DECTER (Gold Fever).

Fillies and mares will scramble seven furlongs in the $75,000

Staten Island division. Horseman Bob Baffert will be represented by a rare

New York runner in UNDER SERVICED (Hook and Ladder), a three-year-old who

defeated older foes in the Schenectady H. and was third in the Iroquois H. in

her latest. RAFFIE'S TREASURE (Raffie's Majesty), a sophomore full sister to the

last two winners of the 1 1/8-mile Empire Classic H., was unable to follow in

the footsteps of older brothers Organizer and Dr. V's Magic, but she should

rebound back among fellow distaffers here. LAURENTIDE ICE (Intidab), the most

accomplished of the older brigade, returns from a seven-month layoff for Mark

Hennig.

The $75,000

Thunder Rumble division, also at seven furlongs, features talented sophomore

SPANKY FISCHBEIN (Hook and Ladder) and six-year-old veteran GOLD AND ROSES (Gold

Token). Spanky Fischbein captured last year's Great White Way and placed in a

handful of stakes for former trainer Todd Pletcher. Since transferring to Chad

Brown, the bay ridgling rolled to a four-length allowance/optional claiming

score going this distance at Saratoga. He did not quite stay the extra two

furlongs when fourth in the Empire Classic, but should get back on track in this

spot. The Richard Schosberg-trained Gold and Roses, who has won eight stakes

over the course of his long career, is exiting several disappointing

performances and must regain his old form to emulate his runner-up finish in the

2007 Thunder Rumble. Likewise in with a major chance is the multiple

stakes-placed three-year-old ALMIGHTY SILVER (Catienus), who sheds the blinkers

for Charlton Baker.
