Silent Bid to skip Lane's End

The field for Saturday's $500,000 Lane's End S. (G2) at Turfway Park stands

at nine after the decision by trainer D. Wayne Lukas to keep SILENT BID (Grand

Slam) in California for a tilt in the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby (G1). Post

positions for the nine-furlong Lane's End will be drawn on Thursday.

"We have decided to go in a different direction with him," Lukas said

Wednesday. "I'm sending two big horses (Consolidator [Storm Cat] and Going Wild

[Golden Missile]) out of town for their final preps so we're going to run Silent

Bid next in the Santa Anita Derby on April 9."

In other news: MAYAN KING (Stephen Got Even), who is undefeated in two

starts, breezed three furlongs in :35 2/5 over a fast track at Aqueduct on

Wednesday. The Gary Contessa trainee was one of just two horses on the worktab.

San Rafael S. (G2) winner SPANISH CHESTNUT (Horse Chestnut [SAf]) and the

Nick Zito-trained ANDROMEDA'S HERO (Fusaichi Pegasus), who exits a victory in

the Sam F. Davis S. at Tampa Bay Downs, are among the nine probables for the

Lane's End.

GRADUATE (Honor Grades), winner of the John Battaglia Memorial S. in his last

start,

multiple stakes victor TEXCESS (In Excess [Ire]), DIAMOND ISLE (Gilded Time) and

WILD DESERT (Wild Rush), both trained by Kenny McPeek, MR SWORD (Rizzi), who has

won his last three starts, and FLOWER ALLEY (Distorted Humor).
