Martin L. Cherry's PAMPERED PRINCESS (Indian Charlie) challenged the

pacesetting Tamweel (Gulch) from the onset of Sunday's $500,000

Spinster

S. (G1), before going on to post a 1 3/4-length victory over Keeneland's

fast main track. With Eddie Castro in the irons, the five-year-old mare earned

her first graded victory in the nine-furlong test, stopping the teletimer in

1:54 4/5.

"I never thought it would happen," Cherry said. "To have it happen at such a

great venue as Keeneland makes it special. Eddie does such a great job on this

filly. He's never ridden a bad race on her."

Breaking on top, Pampered Princess ran four wide and fell 2 1/2 lengths

behind Tamweel, who set a split of :24 for the opening quarter. Quickly moving

back into contention, the eventual winner was just a head back through a

half-mile in :49, and put that rival away by the time three-quarters had been

reached in 1:14 2/5. She didn't hold on to the lead for long, though, as

Capeside Lady (Cape Town) suddenly appeared to the outside, getting a head up

through a mile in 1:40 4/5.

But Pampered Princess was not to be denied. Digging down, the Marty Wolfson

trainee recaptured the lead and slowly pulled away before crossing under the

wire in front. Sent off the 7-1 fifth choice in the 11-horse field, the bay mare

paid $17.80, $8 and $5.40 while keying the $115.40 exacta and $1,304.60

trifecta.

Pleasant Home (Seeking the Gold) rallied from near the back while racing wide

throughout and managed to get a neck up on Capeside Lady at the wire, returning

$7 and $5 at 6-1 while third-place gave back $7.40 at 13-1. Bending Strings

(American Chance), another 2 1/4 lengths back, ended the 7-1-8-3 superfecta that

was worth a nice $10,669.60.

Miss Fortunate (Deputy Minister), Isola Piu Bella (Chi) (Rich Man's Gold),

Winning Season (Lemon Drop Kid), Santa Candida (Arg) (Espaciado), Halory Leigh

(Halory Hunter), Tamweel and Go Girlfriend Go (Demidoff) completed the order

under the wire.

Pampered Princess now owns a 31-13-7-5 career mark with $718,385 in lifetime

earnings. Included on her resume are eight stakes scores and 10 black-type

placings, including a second in the Sabin H. (G3) and a third in the Rampart H.

(G2) from earlier in the year. Bred in Kentucky by Dr. & Mrs. R. Herman

Playforth, she sold to Cherry for $50,000 as a Keeneland November weanling.

Pampered Princess is the most accomplished offspring out of the

stakes-winning Crafty Ember (Crafty Prospector) and has an unnamed yearling

half-sister by Tactical Cat as well as an unnamed weanling full brother.
