Sporting Art a pretty picture in Palm Beach

Narrowly defeated in his American debut by Run Sully Run (Cherokee Run) in an

allowance at Gulfstream Park last month, Jon & Sarah Kelly's SPORTING ART (Doneraile

Court) avenged that loss while taking down a far richer prize Saturday in the

$100,000 Palm Beach S. (G3), one of four graded stakes on the Florida Derby

(G1) program.

Rating in midpack behind a quick pace of :22 4/5, :45 4/5 and 1:09 2/5 set

by Wise Answer (Wise Up), Sporting Art advanced four wide around the far turn,

assumed the lead inside the eighth-pole and resolutely held on to defeat 12-1

chance Flying Dismount (Proud Citizen) by a neck under Javier Castellano. It was

another three-quarters of a length back to Moral Compass (Grand Slam), who held

a brief lead with a furlong to go. Winning time for 1 1/8 miles over a firm turf

was a rapid 1:45 4/5.

A Christophe Clement trainee and the narrow 3-1 favorite, Sporting Art

returned mutuels of $8.20, $4.60, and $2.80. Flying Dismount paid $10.60 and

$6.60, while Moral Compass paid $4 to show. The $1 exacta returned $41.60, the

$2 trifecta $459.60, and the $1 superfecta (8-7-4-3) with Titan of Industry

(Giant's Causeway) came back $1,714.30. Following Titan of Industry in the order

of finish was Prime Realestate (Prime Timber), Run Sully Run, Celestial Comet

(Smart Strike), Cherokee Focus (Cherokee Run), Dynamalt (Dynaformer), Wise

Answer, and Victory Cafe (Victory Gallop).
