Street Cry filly brings $125,000 at Keeneland

A yearling filly by Street Cry (Ire) sold for the top price of $125,000 at

Thursday's fourth session of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale in

Lexington, Kentucky. The lone horse to command six figures during the day's

trade, Hip No. 1535 was purchased by Front Range Farm from the consignment of

Trackside Farm (Tom Evans), agent.

The Kentucky-bred bay is a half-sister to three-time stakes winner Dash of

Humor (Distorted Humor) and the multiple stakes-placed Two Dot Slew (Evansville

Slew). They were produced by the unraced Dot Dot Dash (Nureyev), who is herself

a full sister to top California sire Unusual Heat. The yearling's second dam is

Scandinavian champion and 1984 Flower Bowl H. (G1) victress Rossard (Den) (Glacial).

On Thursday, 239 horses were sold for $3,442,600, a 48.8 percent drop from

the comparable session one year ago, when $6,725,800 was realized by the exact

same number of horses. The average also plummeted 48.8 percent, from $28,141 to

$14,404, and the median declined 60 percent, from $20,000 to $8,000.

Through the first four sessions of the six-day auction, 881 horses have

changed hands for $28,978,000, posting an average of $32,892 and a $15,000

median. Those figures represent plunges of 53.9 percent in terms of gross

receipts, 52.6 percent for the average and 50 percent for the median. By this

point in the 2008 sale, 906 horses had brought a total of $62,912,300, with a

$69,440 average and a $30,000 median.
