Tattersalls February begins

Last updated: 2/4/09 7:31 PM

Tattersalls officials are hoping for solid trade ahead of Thursday's one-day

February Sale at the Newmarket venue. Although no lot looks likely to approach

the 450,000 guineas made by House in Wood (Woodman), the dam of Grade 1 heroine

Alexander Tango (Ire) (Danehill Dancer), 12 months ago, there are several

offerings in the mixed catalog who should prove popular.

Among them is Lot No. 35, MARIE CAMARGO (Kyllachy), a four-year-old maiden

half-sister to dual Group 2 winner Anna Pavlova (Danehill Dancer), who sold for

650,000gns at Tattersalls in December.

Among the 2008 foal crop, Lot 41, a Dansili (GB) filly out of a half-sister

to July S. (Eng-G2) winner Strategic Prince (Dansili [GB]), boasts one of the

best pages. The March-born filly, bred by Lord Vestey's Stowell Park Stud, is

consigned from Peter Stanley's locally-based New England Stud.

In the horses in training section, three-year-old TALKING HANDS (Mujahid),

winner of the Winkfield S. at Ascot in July, should prove popular from Sylvester

Kirk's stable as Lot 179. The highly rated five-year-old GULF EXPRESS

(Langfuhr), selling as Lot 142, won a valuable Goodwood handicap last season for

trainer Sir Michael Stoute and owner Saeed Suhail.

"It's a good solid catalog that should appeal to a wide audience,"

Tattersalls marketing director Jimmy George said. "And I'm sure the National

Stud stallion parade that precedes the sale will prove as popular as ever."

There are 16 stallions due to parade, including freshman Mount Nelson (GB)

(Rock of Gibraltar [Ire]).

Catalogs are available at tattersalls.com.
