Team Valor takes South African sales topper

A filly by Captain Al

topped the final session of the Emperor's National

Yearling Sale with a bid of R1.8 million ($230,843). The bay

filly, named MADAME AL, was consigned by Klawervlei Stud

and was purchased by Team Valor International. She is out of the Group 1-placed

mare Main Emblem (National Emblem).

The top-priced colt at the session was a son of Strike

Smartly, a U.S. graded-stakes winning full brother to Smart

Strike and half-brother to North American champion Dance Smartly. Consigned by Ascot Stud, the

yearling is out of Circle of Gold (Al Mufti), a half sister

to champion Enchanted Garden (Roland Gardens). He was

purchased by Form Bloodstock for R1.1 million ($141,058).
