A short field of five two-year-old fillies will enter the gate
for the Tempted S. (G3) on Election Day at The Big A.
SALUTE (Unbridled) is the 2-1 morning-line favorite and seems
to be the best candidate for the win. The Shug McGaughey charge
is out of the Broodmare of the Year, champion older mare and 1988
Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) winner, Personal Ensign (Private
Account), who has produced such top runners as Miner's Mark (Mr.
Prospector), Our Emblem (Mr. Prospector), My Flag (Easy Goer),
winner of the 1995 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and the
dam of champion and 2002 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1)
winner Storm Flag Flying (Storm Cat), and Traditionally. Salute
comes into this race off an impressive 8 1/4-length maiden
victory at this distance in only her second career start. She has
excellent early speed and John Velazquez returns in the saddle.
SUMMER RAVEN (Summer Squall) came out of her run in the
Astarita S. (G3) with a third-place finish. If the Todd Pletcher
trainee is able to get to the lead early, she has the potential
to hang on for a share. Richard Migliore will be making his first
start aboard the filly. Migliore has seen his share of success as
of late, earning a record of 8-2-1-1 in the past week.
WINSOME (War Chant) broke her maiden in her fifth start,
earning a 94 BRIS Speed rating. She has the highest speed figure
in the field and should be considered. The James
Jerkins-conditioned filly will be ridden by Jorge Chavez, who
reined Winsome into the winner's circle last out. This is her
second start since a poor performance on the turf, in which she
trailed the leader at the wire by 18 1/4-lengths.
K.D.'S SHADY LADY (Maria's Mon) is still looking for her first
win. She turns back in distance off the turf and may get a part.
Edgar Prado returns to the irons and he rode gray filly to a
second-place finish in her career debut.
HIDE AND CHIC (Seeking the Gold) broke her maiden in her first
try in wire-to-wire fashion. Last out, she placed just off the
board and will try her first route distance here. The Bill Mott
trainee will have to improve to factor.
