The Factor colt tops third F-T session at $290,000

A colt by The Factor was gaveled down to Altimira Racing for $290,000

Wednesday at the third session of the Fasig-Tipton October Fall Yearling Sale in

Lexington, Kentucky. Offered by Paramount Sales, agent, he toured the ring as

Hip No. 927.

The Kentucky-bred is the first foal out of Salvar (Eddington), a half-sister

to multiple Grade 3 winner Clearly Now (Horse Greeley).

Paul Sharp, agent, was the winning bidder on Hip 944, an Uncle Mo colt

consigned by VanMeter-Gentry Sales, agent. He's a son of Scott's Aly Cat (Tale

of the Cat), a half-sister to multiple stakes winner King Henny (Henny Hughes)

from the family of Grade 2 queen Deeliteful Irving (Afternoon Deelites).

On Wednesday, 213 yearlings sold for $6,727,700, a decline of 36.7 percent

from last year when a three-day auction concluded with 292 head selling for

$10,632,900. The session average was off 13.3 percent, from $36,414 to $31,585,

while the median dropped 25 percent, from $20,000 to $15,000.

With one day of selling remaining, 639 yearlings have sold for $21,566,700, a

dip of 28.1 percent from this point in 2014 when 837 horses had brought

$30,006,200. The average is down a more modest 5.9 percent, from $35,850 to

$33,751, while the median has declined 18.9 percent, from $18,500 to $15,000.

The four-day auction concludes Thursday with a session beginning at 10 a.m.
